Hi all. We have been recording 720/24P to a Citidisk. Aside from various problems like not being able to review footage as we don't have a p2 card we were recording into an avi with the unfamiliar canopus edius codec.

I am shooting in Taiwan and the production company wanted me to edit at their facility using Edius, hence the Citidisk being set with that codec.

However, now I have my own workstation (using Avid or Final Cut).

My problem is we shot 3 days into the avi file with this canopus codec. Does anyone know how I can convert these files to a usable format (i.e. mov)? Any help would be great. We have looked everywhere it seems.:crybaby:

Canopus Procoder should do the trick.

You can also download a decode-only version of the Canopus codec from the Canopus/Grass Valley support website. This would allow you to convert the AVI to another format using almost any NLE, you don't need Edius or Procoder.

It's only for Windows, so if you are editing on a Mac, you would have to convert under Bootcamp or have someone do the conversion for you.

Hi thanks for your feedback. We went to a studio who had Procoder and tried transcoding into different formats with major quality loss. Are we doing something wrong?
Is it possible to transcode the files into a useable format in Avid?
Is it possible to transcode the files into a useable format in Final Cut?

Do you know how to transcode the file into a format that maintains the quality for use in either of these systems?
Basically we don't want to use Edius as the studio time is unavailable and we have a workstation at our home with Final Cut and Avid. We are also unfamiliar with Edius and know Avid and Final Cut. Trouble is what we have shot already was recorder using the Edius codec. Please help!!

The first thing you need to do is figure out if you have been recording in Canopus HQ or Canopus DV format. The latter is a standard-definition format and could explain the major loss in quality.
