View Full Version : Is HYDRA going to be available by spring?

Hi all. . .

I am very interested in using two HVX-200s with the Hydra system as the B-cameras (and, if my RED ONE doesn't arrive in time, the A-cameras) in a feature I'm directing this coming summer. We are going to be doing a film out on this feature, hence optimal resolution and color space are essential.

I have written to Juan and posted on the Reel-Stream forum, but I have not gotten anything back on this. It's all very, very quiet as far as I can tell.

Is there anyone here who can provide me with data that suggests when we'll actually have access to the Hydra system? If this isn't available, I'm going to have to go into HYPER-drive to find an alternative.

Thanks so much.

Stephen

Why Stephen it is good to see you here!

This thread seems to have most of the hydra info.

I'll send you a PM, I have also been considering the mod.

When/If Hyrda is going to ship seems to be the 100,000 dollar question. I've asked and have also gotten zero response. Of course I could be wrong, but based on that, I would not bet the farm on having a trouble free - feature ready mod for the HVX in the next 4-6 months.

As far as alternatives, by your time frame there "should" be hundreds of Reds around and readily available in the rental pipeline. And if you want a sure bet, have you looked into the Silicon Imaging SI-2k? It's already shipping and has been used on several features of various budget sizes with reported success.

Cheers & good luck!
