Hey all! I recently got an Intel iMac with the following specs:

Mac OS X 10.4.10
2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
1 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM

I've got my copy of Final Cut Pro Studio 2 and Premeire CS3 installed on it, as well as every conceivable driver and software update I can think of. I cannot, for the life of me, get this computer to recognize the HVX! Both Final Cut and Premiere fail to recognize the camera, and if I switch the HVX into a FireWire device, the P2 cards still won't show up on the desktop.

I'm sure that the FireWire port on the computer is working, because it recognizes all my external FW drives.

I also know that the camera is 100% because any non-Intel mac I plug it into immediately recognizes it.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm missing??? Thanks in advance for your help!

You are probably aware of all of the below but just in case...

Careful when plugging/unplugging the HVX from a Mac, can blow the
firewire port. Always have at least the camera off when doing this.

To establish a firewire connection, press the button to see your clip icons-
then hold down for a couple seconds. Blue screen will change from disconnect
1394 to connect when the connection is made (what does yours say?)

Even though you don't see the camera on the desktop (actually will show up
in Finder as "No name"), in FCP try going to file/import p2. What happens?

I've got my copy of Final Cut Pro Studio 2...

you will import using log and transfer, right below log and capture....

I also know that the camera is 100% because any non-Intel mac I plug it into immediately recognizes it.

You can't just plug it in and it will be immediately recognized. You need to have it in the Firewire host mode.

Then you need to carefully connect cam and computer and then start the cam.

Then you have to go to MCR mode by pressing the button once. Then you have to hold that button down for about three seconds until you see a Firewire Connect screen.

Then the cam with a card inserted will mount on the desktop with the NO NAME icon.

But the cam is never IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED.

I had the same problem with my new imac. I tried using the USB port and it works perfect! Weird but it works. You can connect to the P2 through FCP as well just like with the firewire. I don't know why it won't work with the Firewire but I gave up trying to figure it out when the USB worked.

Hey all! Thanks for the responses.

Using USB works perfectly, though I need Firewire with the stop motion capture software I'm using. (Needed for device control and for the live video feed)

My FireWire connections are perfect, and switching the 1394 PC function from "Device" to "Host" doesn't work. The P2 cards, when in device mode show up immediately on any non-Intel Mac I plug it into - so the computer itself must be missing something.

Regardless, I've got everything working perfectly on my PowerPC G5 - it's just frustrating that the Intel iMac is basically worthless for this setup. I've tried getting the HVX to show up on 3 different Intel iMacs with the same result.

That's odd. We have an Intel Mac and our HVX200 works fine with Firewire. As David S. said, It doesn't respond right away. Make sure that the camera is in Host mode. Also, make sure it's not something stupid like a bad 1394 cable.

Best regards,

yes i've had some issues with that as well. a friend of mine just bought a 24" imac and we got everything installed on it, p2cms, p2drivers and all that. but still no dice on mounting the cards through firewire. i'll try the usb method.

Why not detail exactly how you set up your cam, your iMac, and the procedure for trying to mount.

I have a 24" 2.16 C2D iMac and firewire works fine for me, so it's not an intel iMac issue specifically. I did have trouble initially but I found out that my firewire was bad, it worked for capturing from my DVCAM deck but it didn't work with the HVX in host mode. I switched out the cable and everything worked great.

Hey Guys, the issue here is not whether the P2 will mount or not, rather it is the fact that Intel iMacs will not allow you to monitor through your HVX200...ESPECIALLY in Leopard. In Tiger, it could be done, although you had to run an applescript to disable your iSight camera so that you could actually monitor through QuickTime Pro or FCP. I used to use my Intel 24inch iMac as a reference monitor when I would set up my focus on my Brevis 35 and the HVX200. Now, since I upgraded to Leopard...FORGET IT. Even with the disable iChat script written specifically for Leopard, I am not able to use the iMac as a monitor anymore. Which is horse manure.

If anyone out there knows how to get a 24inch Intel iMac running Leopard to monitor through the HVX200, please let us all know. You would be greatly indebted and appreciated for this info. Best wishes.

I've used my current 24" imac 2.4ghz to monitor my HVX using Adobe on Location and more recently using HD Monitor pro. I don't have to disable anything to make it work.

I use OnLocation on a Macbook Pro with Leopard and have no problems either. I plugged the puppy in and it worked right off the bat.

It's definitively a problem with the iMac shared FW controller.
I have the same problem and the only way to fix it is to use an external FW device, like an ext. FW HD. For more details look at this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=122038&page=4

hope this help

Why not dump the imac and get a real Mac, a Macpro.
