Effects on widescee footage

Is there a way to make it so that color correction effects will not affect the black bits on the top and bottom of my DVX letterbox footage?

you can always just crop it before u apply the effects. other than that, theres nothing really u can do, if the bars are on the actual video.

apply the CC effects to an adjustment layer with a mask that excludes the letterbox areas.

Also consider the order in which your effects are stacked. Changing the order will change whether or not effects are being applied within other effects.

Apply a new Mask over the footage after apply all the effects. Match the original letterbox (mask)and all will be good.
