Any good graphic artist types or know any art students that has "skills"? I need a logo for my company that I am putting together. I am trying to design it myself but keep coming up with blanks with how I want it to look. I wanted something animated or still that I can tack on the end or beginning of my projects as well.

Perhaps a serive such as this might work:
http://www.selectadesigner.com/

Or check with your local colleges and universities that offer such courses. Same with continuing education.

Are you still looking for someone to design your logo? I have a friend that might be interested, but I can't guarantee that he'll be able to help you. You can email him at jonathan.davis@teenmania.org.

Shooter, are you going to pay the student? If yes, i know a small media company in quebec city who are just starting. Most of em are awesome graphic designers (Geneviève for example at : http://www.grdesigner.com/) and they make great prices, they could do something awesome for ya. Only thing is that quality comes with a price ;D PM me of you need contacts

Of course I will be paying...I will be buying the copyright as well or maybe I can work that into the final price. See if you can get some prices from them and yes I would like to see a sample of their work.

I HIGHLY recommend Dorota Swies. *

She is re-designing my website, and hers as well. *She did a logo last year for Golden Productions in Florida. *Anyhow, check out her site for yourself, and mine too for some good examples:

www.dorotaswies.com

www.the-lyons-den.com

If you would like to contact her just say that you're from the DVX forum.

Actually I am going to try to make it myself..a friend of mine got me After Effects from Japan last week so I might be able to hook it up with that. If not then I will be on the hunt for a artist! I don't really know what I want which is the scary thing! I produce all sort of projects and come up with all sorts of ideas for various projects but when it comes to designing a logo....I am drawing up blanks! I may just let someone else do it for me and I would have to pay them for their services.

Terry_Lasater
05-25-2004, 09:55 PM
Wow, After Effects from Japan! Its always better when its imported.

Maybe you could exchange professional services with a graphics artist. You could offer to produce a promotional video that you'll compress for their website and for DVD.

In exchange, they will design your logo and print business cards, envelopes and letterhead with the design.

Just a thought...

now why didn't I think of that! Yea my friend's friend flys for the military and is overseas a lot. A while back he asked me what kind of software I needed because he could get it for super cheap over there! I said I needed After Effects and he called last night and said he got it! I think it only cost a few bucks over there compared to like $600 or more over here!

Oh a pirates life for you! Yeah Asia has a bunch of software for cheap..so does the gnutella networks..me personally..If I am selling my work I need to do it the legal way..Well...most of the time..

heh heh. when I was setting up that stupid Cafepress thing it showed thongs so I said what the hell.. and believe it or not people are buying them ha ha.

I havnt, and I have had reports that the designs wash away after a few washes, which im not surprised, I always figured that place made crap... I wouldnt waste the money, although Kai made one hell of a design. I guess im not a very good salesman ha ha.

When I get a chance I will look into getting some professionaly done.

I think it was important to see if it would even be in demand in the first place. I'd buy high quality if available. Damn Jarred. You need to get osme hot chicks posing in the gear man!

I'd be surprised if it is a legal copy. Be prepared to get a burned CD and a serial number that's floating around on any warez site out there.

So... you're designing a logo in AE? You do realize it's not a print/design proggy? Or are you making a film studio bumper type logo?

DVX100Shooter
05-30-2004, 06:11 PM
Well I want something in print for business cards, t-shirts, etc. but I would like to get the same image or a totally different image/logo to be animated for use in my projects.

kai
05-31-2004, 09:13 AM
Then AE isn't the program you need to use to "design' your logo. That would be Photoshop or Illustrator. You'd use AE after you've designed it to animate it.

Terry_Lasater
05-31-2004, 10:43 AM
Wouldn't files for business cards, T-shirts, etc. be a CMYK image?

And wouldn't AE or an NLE be working with RGB files?

Jive
05-31-2004, 05:49 PM
You can't really create more than basic shapes and text in AE anyway. As Kai said, you'd probably need to use a vector program (Illustrator, Freehand, etc.), or if you must, a bitmap program (Photoshop, etc.) to create the logo and then bring it into AE to animate.

John C Lyons
05-31-2004, 07:53 PM
Yeah, if you're trying to make a static logo for business cards, shirts, etc with AE I am baffled.*

If you and your buddy figured out a cool way to make a business card in AE then I guess I need to forget trying to get into this video thing because it's way over my head. *LOL.

I don't understand why you would post "I need a logo" but then not follow up with any of the suggestions people posted here. * ???

DVX100Shooter
06-06-2004, 04:12 PM
Not follow up with any of the suggestions? Um, there are 3 pages of posts under which I started this topic and got great responses from. I just wasn't sure which route I wanted to go to either design it myself or have a skilled graphic artist do it for me.

The logo that I had in mind involved taking a portion of a still photograph and adding video to it and blending it together into one shot with the name of my company over that. So we are talking about layers, compositing, and animation. All of which, I was told by other members of this site that I would need Affter Effects to make this happen. That is the only reason I brought AE up in the first place. Now if I can design a logo in Photoshop to be used for stationary or shirts etc. that is cool too.

Somehow we all got off the topic of the logo and was talking about thongs! LOL!

I think it's a terminology issue at play here... by "i need a logo", I think people were picturing your actual BRAND image (your logo), while I think from your description above, you were thinking of a bumper or stinger OF your logo.

Best advice is to get a highly qualified designer (note I didn't say your cousin's neighbor's kid who "does that stuff"), to design your brand. Then, take that logo and spice it up till your heart's content in AE. :)

I finally got a Graphic Designer that has been working on a logo for me. I told her I wanted the logo for print, as well animated for the website and the same animation to be used on video at the begining or end of my projects. She knows what to do for using it for a website but she asked me what format does it have to be in to be used for video? Since I have a MAC couldn't she just export it as Quicktime movie file and then when ever I needed to use it, I can just drag that file to the timeline of FCP?

She asked me if I needed a "Video Layover" for my logo. Now that I think about it, exporting and sending that logo to me in a Quicktime file may be the best bet...

any other suggestions?

Anybody else ever wondered by design/ graphic artists almost always have a website that sucks?

Seems like they would put a little effort into making their own site look good so they would attract more clients.

Not quite sure what you mean. I couldn't be happier with my designer's work for me and her website is awesome as well...

Hey man, I would've done it... but it seems you've already got someone working on it.

Logos aren't hard to make. I've made several. The real trick to them is in the psychology and creation of the logos. Very little has to do with the end look. Different shapes of logos have different psychological effects on the human mind.

Another important part about a logo is that someone has to be able to look at it for 2 seconds and remember it instantly. That's what really makes a good logo. You've seen the nike swoosh right? That's genious logo making. Everyone remembers that right?

Your logos should also really be mostly vector based. Going rastor works sometime as well but gives you less flexibility when it comes to placing your logo on different things such as business cards (they become quite small) to posters (quite large).

Black and white might also be another good way to go. Saves you money on printing cards and other such things.

Having a logo that is flexible enough and good can be quite difficult. I hope you're paying the designer well. I know I wouldn't do it for very cheap... it's hard to come up with good logos...
