This is a delicate piece of work shot with the intention of testing this gear: a Canon XH-A1 and the new Letus Economy / Extreme
All natural lighting and all color correction done in camera. The hidden secret to the XHa1

I couldn't help but notice that on every crossfade that there is grain - is this from using the Economy/Extreme?
BTW-like the last shot - want to see more of THAT movie!

Yeah the fruit basket shot is the best, must look closely at the reflection in the table.

that can be due to either the compression, because it did not look like grain but compression blocks. or the fact that some of the shots were underexposed in areas which adds noise to the video. But not so much grain.

Papa - I'm familiar with compression artifacts - this looks more like fractal noise-type artifacting - its almost on every fade-to-black and some crossfades.
I guess I'll need to edit and render my first video with the Letus Ex to make sure its not an issue.

Ugh, some nice shots but the cheap shot at the end really ruined it for me. You should bill this as a test footage rather than a "film." Some nice lighting in the house though.

Hahah f that last shot. I had my bose headphones in at nearly full blast and you nearly gave me a heart attack. For using all natural light and no post color correction the footage looks pretty good. Although some of the shots were a little too dark.
Hi
I'm about to buy an XH A1, but have noticed that in most example footage online the Sony Z1, and even the Canon XL2 look better. The A1 footage all seems a little dull and flat.
All the reviews recommend the XH A1 for the price, but I'm confused by the footage I've seen.
What should I do??? Please help.

Stock canon image is VERY flat. With presets, you can make it look however you'd like. Look at the presets thread in the XH-A1 forum.
sorry for the continual self reference.. but:
Do you find these dull and flat?

Definately have to tweak the Canon to get the image. In fact, the more you tweak the more you find you CAN tweak . . AND . . with the A1 when you change one parameter it affects the overall look of others which is a variable I really like when trying to make a "special" look. This amateur loves to make a nice look.
