audio problem is AE CS3

Hello

The other day i was trying to add some effects to my video which was in .rm format. Knowing that after does not support that i converted into .avi format using xilisoft software. After i did the conversion after effects supported that but surprisingly the audio is gone. When i see audio window everything is disabled. Is it AE problem or some audio codec problem. The audio output is in mp3 format but i dont know why I am not able to hear the audio output.

If I had to guess, I would guess something got messed up in the conversion between formats.

You're using real media for source files? Interesting approach.
Convert the audio to AIFF or WAV.

i converted to acc, mp3 as well as wav formats nothing is working. i think i have to enable something in AE which i dont know. I also pressed numeric 0 on preview but that is also not working.
