I am in need of a couple of soft cases for my 500's. Preferably ones that will accommodate the camera with the lens and battery attached.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Brad

We've got a Kata and it works pretty well. We can put everything in there, including attached mic and it works pretty well. Easy to carry over the shoulder and well balanced.

You have to adjust the padding a bit to make sure there is not pressure on the viewfinder, but so far so good for us.

I went PortaBrace, CC-HD1, I think. About $380. As usual, fantastic PB build & feature set. Does not fit my Cavision matte box flag. Just the french flag won't fit (widthwise), and since it's not easily removable, I just put on the standard hood when 500 goes in case. (Doubt it'd fit in the Kata either...) And the matte box is usually not for run n' gun anyway, so not a problem. I've got the PB Production cases, and Petrol monitor cases.

Yep, that's the Kata I was talking about. You have to kind of slide the camera in a bit but it's easy. We've done some mild hiking with the Kata, and though it's not quite what I'd call comfortable on the long haul, it is pretty good and you can sling it a bunch of different ways that feel okay. It carries on the handles with a really nice balance too, and all the zippers are solid and nicely water resistant.

I saw Kaku had set up one of the Kata lighting cases for his HPX. One of the trolley versions. Worked very well and for ENG can take the whole kit including your audio gear, and I mean all of it. Think I will grab one.

I got a petrol U back...great because it has wheels. I threw in some extra bubble wrap for safety (at least in my deluded head) but I think it works great...

Just wondering... does the PB have handles or only the strap?

Looking at it on B&H I'm not seeing handles.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

Hi ncje,

Do you have the model?

I would love to take a look.

Thanks.

Yep, PB has handles on sides, also has a short leather strap that's good for picking it up when too high to lift with shoulder strap. The black strap has fast pulls, so it's super quick to open bag top (strap prevents top from opening when tightened to a nice short carry length). The guys at PB really think about usage & design to match.
