A couple months ago, I bought a bunch of Panasonic miniDV tapes to use with my HV20 for personal use. I'd read about the need to stick with one brand so you reduce the chance at getting dropped frames, but lately that's been difficult. I have an internship with some people, and they only have Sony tapes. As a result, I'm constantly switching between the two brands and noticing a lot of dropped frames when I do my own shooting.
The only solution I can think of right now is to switch to Sony tapes for my own personal use as well as the internship, but I can easily foresee a situation where I make the switch and then get pummeled with jobs from people who use Panasonic tapes.
Is there a way to clean out the taint of another brand's tapes? Should I just make the switch? Should I always use my own tapes on every shoot to avoid the brand problem completely? What do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated.
