PSYCHOSIS by Maciej Bialobrzeski
Ok. So I think I'll be the last uploader - if I'll get approved - I don't know if I count the time difference right and I forgot about the acknowledgement - PM'ed LarryR about it...
I decided to make a movie for the fest on Wednesday, shot it on Thursday and edited it during long night hours :)
No poster - my title consists of black background and a nice Verdana text in the middle. Also because of no time I had no actors so I forced my girlfriend (who turned out great) and my brother (not so good ;) ) to play. Everything else I did myself (pre-production, production and post-production). My cousin and his manger were nice enough to allow me to use his Beethoven's recordings. Shot it on Canon XH-A1. I used standard halogen lamps I bought in the supermarket (my lights are on location right now ;) ). Other equipment: glidecam camcrane, manfrotto tripod, manfrotto wheels (these wheels you attach to your tripod to simulate dolly), some mics and that's all.
Here are some screen grabs:

Any how I hope you guys like it. Even though I had little time I really put a lot of heart into this picture :)

Thanks! I shot it in a basement of a publishing company I work in :) And then I took a holiday on Friday to cut it :)

SPOILERS....
I think I got it but I'm not entirely sure.
Some pretty nice shots. I thought the shot where she ran at him and knocked him over looked pretty fake though. He raised the weapon and then basically stood there. Maybe a better angle of that shot would have worked.
I'll watch it again to make sure that I get the twist. Nice work overall.
Cheers,
Mike

I am guessing this is in Polish. What part of Poland are you from? My girlfriend is from Poland so I'll have to see if your subtitles match. I recently watched Knife in the Water and she complained throughout that the English subtitles were off. I dig Polanski regardless.
I liked the mood of the film. The Beethoven piece was on the money for me and the sound design overall was strong. More so in the beginning of the film. The room noise was a little distracting once she got back to her apartment. I admire the time frame you accomplished this in. A lot of good work in a short period of time.
I echo your thoughts on your brothers performance, but have to cut him a break for jumping in with no experience. Not entirely sure I got the end you were intending, but overall nice work.

Thanks!
Kyser: The story lacks a few shots. After results of the fest I'll show the final version of the film (I'm working on it now ;) )- maybe it'll be more clear then.
About the weapon. I never looked at it like this. Maybe that's why it doesn't work... Thanks for pointing that out! I'll try to re-cut.

This is in Polish indeed... I'm from Warsaw - born and still living. Subtitles may not match in a few words but overall they should be ok :)
I thought the music (cause of no time) will be a low point in this movie but, as you mentioned, I did turn out to be good.
Thanks for feedback!

REVIEW:
Some good stuff here. The story and the twist work nicely. I hope to see more from you. Oh, and I love that kitchen!
FILMMAKER-TO-FILMMAKER:
A little rough spots and I think there's a little too much cutting for the pace this one needs. I like the waist high pan and track when she gets up off the couch and goes into the kitchen. Sound needs a little work, definitely throw out the sync'd on camera stuff in the apartment and build the sound offline.
Nice work. I'm a sucker for European stuff. There's just a different viewpoint of things that you don't get in the states. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, thanks for the reviews!
I've shot some additional footage and re-edited some parts. I'll upload it in HD after voting closes. Maybe the second version will be clearer and the pace won't be such a problem...

I liked your flick alot. In my top five! One of the few in this fest that felt like a "real" movie. Beethoven was perfect choice. Camera work and VFX very good. I thought the guy did fine for what he had to do - stand around and try not to overact. The girl, your girlfriend, did very good. Sexy in a Juliette Binoche kind of way. Amazing what you accomplished in such a short time. You got skillz, dawg!

From a screenwriter's point of view, of all of the short films I've seen in the contest so far, this had the MOST story. It was simple, complex, compelling, and I loved the sets and that kitchen was to die for! Really, your story had a beginning, middle, end and sure people can complain about the shots or angles or props, whatever, I enjoyed this story because I felt there was one. I haven't seen all of the films yet, so I don't know which one I consider the best, but this is in the top three of my list for sure!
Congrats on the story. Good job.

Navitas,
This film was very pleasing to the eye. I love how you used a different color palette for each scene. I especially liked that red for the kitchen. Good job on this.

Hey... another film I'm surprised isn't getting more attention... I thought the script was pretty well done... the cinematography was fantastic... really nice comps... the acting was credible... the main thing I felt needed a little more was the editing... a few of your beats didn't feel quite right... but a well crafted film... hope to see more in the future!

Hey Navitas,
I think your story was pretty good, but the way it was told was a little confusing. A lot of big plot points were told in one instant with a line, but not shown in a clear way.
I think your shots were amazing and your actors were very good. Your locations were also tremendous.
You probably could edit this down a bit. The one shot that is of the girl pouring the glass of wine seemed like a 'hey, I got a crane' shot and went on too long.
I think your story is there which is the hard part. You just need to tweak some of the ending shots to make it more clear what happened.

Swietny filmek! :)
For three days of work, it's great. One of the better entries as far as the story is concerned, and the cinematography, location, music, and the girl's acting flew really well. However, I do agree with some of the others that the editing could use some work.
Looking forward to the "final" product.:)
