I'm really hoping that no one will conclude that this is just masking frame by frame....If you watch the first clip, it's the same trick...But in the second shot where he's skating the rail, each one is a different trick.....The subtle movement of the camera panning from left to right kind of makes sense how they did that but I'm still trying to think this one through completely....Let me know what you think....

My first thought is a computer controlled rig that is capable of duplicating the exact movement every single time. Then everything else is just masking.
That zoom in the first trick didn't look right somehow. It looks less like a crane shot than a subtle scaling of the image, in which case that's also masking.

It's just scaling into the shot in the program from a cam on a tripod, on the second shot there are 3 different takes of the same trick with 2 repeats of each trick equaling 9 people, just roto the first one of each trick and copy and place behind :Drogar-Kriz(DBG):for the 2 echoes.

I agree. Both shots look like the pan & zoom effect (aka ken burns efftect) that's typically used with still images.
I think they shot both scenes locked off (HD). When they did the compositing they only needed to mask the parts of the skater that overlapped. The final shot was pan & zoomed during downconvert to give it some additional motion. Clever idea.
**Edit - I just read LostInSound's post again. I think there's an echo in this thread.

This one really gives it away....The last shot where the pan continues but the skater fades out....Totally thought just like what you guys came up with, today when I was sitting in my marketing class....It just kind of hit me when I was day dreaming.....It's a cool effect though...

i think someone on creative cow had a tutorial where they used the echo effect and a simple square mask that only needed customizing when the different echoed people overlapped to make one guy in SWAT riot gear look like a whole team in a line.
