I searched high and low and could not find a xlr cable that was the right length for my shotgun mic (ME66) and to have one made was like $25! So I made my own from a cable I had lying around and its perfect. Then I got to thinking, why not make some for my fellow DVX users? So if I get enough interest I'll make some for you guys and use the best cable (canare) and connectors (neutrik) and sell them for say $10-$12.
Gimme some feedback on this and I'll fire up the soldering iron!
I have some pics of mine if you'd like to see it.

Cool! Jarred I love those right angle XLRs. And a little off topic what mics do you guys use on your cameras? 8)

yeah I ordered those right angle connectors cause I hated how the staight ones poked out the side of the camera, and they also allow a shorter cable length because the cables need to make that bend anyways.

I use a schrieber accoustic shotgun, It's cheap and just happens to ride the perfect impedance for the dvx so it works rather well.

I'd definitely buy one. My vote would be to have the right-angle connectors if possible...

wow that looks awsome, I have one question though, in the pic you have the right angle XLR plugged into channel 2 and the way it is bent it covers channel 1. is that the case ?
ether way how can i buy one !!!
thanks

I made it like that because I never use the 1st channel.. but you can rotate the heads of the adapters so they point any direction you want. The top photo is the ones he's selling. I couldnt make them for the price he is generously offering to sell them for.

I see I'm not the only one who uses the shoe for mounting the mic. I thought I might be . . .

that screw on mic holder is only good for those little mic's. I think the panasonic mini shotugn would work perfect on it, but I havn't actually met anyone that uses that mic.

I remeber the hooplah when they didnt include that mic in the box.. considering every single marketing brochure and ad showed it with that mic and didnt say it was optional.

I was confused about that myself, but I figured it out before I ordered.

The little clip on the bracket, though, is good for corralling the XLR cable.

Jarred when you plug into the channel 2 the signal goes to both channels correct? How much would one like yours cost? 8)

Zoomforce

you can select if you want it to goto both channels or only one and use the internal mic pickup the other channel.

I dont know how much one of mine would cost because I never have seen one before.. I kinda invented it as I went along (at least I would like to think so)

I'll use the right angle connectors if you guys want them, I just thought you'd have to use channel 1 because of the way the connector covers it, but I'll make e'm if you guys want e'm. I think the right angle connectors are more expensive to buy but I'll let you know.
I should have the website up by the end of the week where you can place orders.

i don't want to hijack this thread if the original poster is still interested in doing this. but if not, i can make these. i used to work at a music shop and made hundreds of cables. for this i could use either neutrik or switchcraft connectors, either straight or right angle. for cable i would probably use mogami or canare. not sure exactly what it would cost but i think selling them for $15 would cover costs and put a little profit in there.

I'd take four 1.5 footers and four 2 footers, not angled, CW.

well the original poster hasn't been on the board for over two years..... so i guess i'll jump in here. anybody that wants short xlr's or any other kind of custom cable, chime in here or PM me. if i can get enough people interested to justify ordering a spool of cable and a bunch of connectors, i will do it.

Well, I seriously would like a high quality 10" XLR to XLR cable.

And I think that hundreds of others would as well.

So, someones sitting on a gold mine... IMO

Would there be a place like that in most towns? Like a music store?

it's possible. a mom n pop store that does repairs might help you out. no way you will get any help at a guitar center or sam ash.

what about this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/262152-REG/Audio_Technica_ASP00127_XLR_Male_to_XLR.html) one i found at b&h? it's 18" and under $20 with one right angle end.....

Thats decent, but for a on camera shotgun (NTG-1) there will be to much slack all over your hands, IMO. With a tripod I don't think it would matter of course, but I will be shooting both ways, probably more hand held than not.

Last time I was in the UK I had a 10" made in a electronics shop there, but it had a small buzzing to it, so I could not use it in the end...

Im telling you, me, and alot of more people are looking for this kind of thing. If someone started making these, and bought a sponsorship to sell them on this site they could make quite a bit of extra money!

this may happen. i'm getting some interest.

i need to check on braided cable. i found some and it's from a decent supplier. it's good cable, just not the best. i prefer mogami or canare and i haven't found any braided stuff from them yet. the cloth sheath serves no purpose on a short cable like this other than aesthetics. so would you guys rather have the best cable out there, or the coolest looking decent cable out there? one thing, the braided stuff is much more money than the regular stuff so the price may increase a little. thanks for all the feedback. i will be checking this frequently and possibly ordering the supplies on monday...

just to let you guys know that the sound room has also short XLR cables and they do right angle connectors too if you ask.

They go for about $16 each for a 1 ft cable .

I got 2 from them and i'm happy

the one place i went to was a mom and pop shop here in cc tx. its called accent audio video. there is a place here in town called altex they have stores in sanantonio and austin not sure if they have more than that. now there is a place the dallas area called kenedys eng, (not sure if its kennedys eng) they are great place kinda like b&h but on a smaller scale who can do it. also frys in the dallas area might help. i hope these places and cities can help you. if you websites let me know.

I would also like to have a short cable with right-angle connectors. The "short" cable I now have is too long and gets in the way. I didn't realize that they could be easily custom made.

Anyone out there still making these short cables? I'm needing one or I guess a second for backup! Would also like to have the male end as a right angle. Please email me if you do.
