When working with controlled lighting ( a lighting kit), is there any reason to use the ND filter? Just checking to make sure I understand the concept.

It really depends on what kind of depth-of-field that you're looking for in your shot. If you want shallower depth-of-field, use the 1/8 ND Filter and open the iris up. If you are looking for longer depth-of-field, pull your iris back and don't use the ND Filter. Depth-of-field is really what it is going to affect the most.
