Hi,

Today i have ordered brevis with Nikon mount. I will buy Nikon Lens. But which lens should i choose? Must I buy 1.4 or 1.8? Can I use something over 2?

Btw, I am using Canon XH-A1

i suggest starting with a 50mm f 1.4. you can get them reasonably cheap and are the best starter lens. Nothing too shallow, but shallow enough.

I would try to stay under 2.8 if you can, otherwise you will run into issues shooting indoors unless you know how ot light. Sometimes 1.4 isnt sharp enough, so 2.8 and under.

You can buy a 50mm 1.8 at most e-tailers for a little over $100... Pretty sharp, fast, cheap and brand new....

Vivitar Series 1 (Ver. 1) is a great 70mm-210mm zoom lens. Versions 2 and 3 are also acceptable. Hunt 'em down on eBay.

Thank you so much. I am planning to buy 3 lenses.

1. 28mm
2. 50mm
3. 80mm

I bought these:

1. brevis hd bundle + 72mm achromat + nikon mount
2. spacer
3. brevis to rail mount
4. Rail system (45 cm)

That's it for now. I am going for lenses :) I want less than 2.8 Because i am not good with lightning

Hmm do you think 45cm is enough? What kind of lenses i can not use with this?

The rails systems are incredibly versatile. The 45cm (18") will give you room for an HVX/XH-A1 type camera, flip unit, mattebox, and a 28-200 zoom (a very long lense). If you plan on using a shoulder mount (we've got one coming), the 60cm will give you rails hanging out back for a battery pack etc.

Well yes maybe i will need shoulder mount and also steadicam... So 45 cm is not enough you think? I will not always use shoulder mount.

Btw, where can i buy the best steadicam for this equipment? Which one is best you think and any online stores?

Steadicam is a rather loaded question, but basically, don't go cheap. It's the little details that make the big difference, and cost more. Make sure the rig will support 10lbs if you plan on using a fully kitted XH-A1 with the Brevis, rails, mattebox and filters. There's many posts here with opinions so it's worth searching a bit. I had a chance to try out the Steadicam Flyer recently and was quite impressed with its build quality. Another unit to check out is the Artemis DV Rig Pro if a back mount vest appeals to you.

1.4 is better then the 1.8. it has more blades inside and hence gives better bokeh then the 1.8

see here for example of a 1.4 and a 1.8 canon lens. the 1.4 blends the bokeh better

I bought 50mm f/1.8 and 24-85mm f/1.8-4. Both of them are Nikon. I also bought Nikon d80 DSLR. Do you think they are good lenses?

These sound very good. You'll be thrilled with that zoom, and find yourself using it more than anything else. These lenses are designed for SLR film frame size, correct?
