I got my HV20 a week ago and have been playing round with the manual controls, following the instructions on this site, and found that I can lock the gain by holding down the photo button halfway for an extended period of time. So you can pan from a bright image to a black image with no added gain. Unfortunately the camera will not let you lock the gain this way if you are recording. So, is there any way we can hack the camera's software to allow this? Or does anyone know if there is a way to lock the gain while recording?

Thanks,
Rob.

If you mean exposure by gain, you can use the exposure lock.

Yes you can lock the exposure for recording; look up in the articles section for details how.

Spotlight mode is supposed to disable gain, but it won't lock it at higher gain.
