What is DVXFest?
---DVXFest is a free online independent film festival presented by DVXuser.com

Who can participate in the DVXFest festivals?
---Anyone.

How much does it cost to enter a DVXFest?
---Absolutely nothing. DVXFest has always been free to enter, and this is still the case. The only thing it costs to enter is your time, passion, creativity and all that other good stuff that goes into making a film.

If I enter one of the DVXFests, what are the chances that my film will actually be accepted?
---As long as your film meets the simple guidelines put forth at the beginning of each festival, it will be accepted for viewing by the general public and will be eligible for any and all recognitions that every other film in the fest is eligible for. There is a pre-screening process for adherence to the guidelines and to verify that there are no violations of copyright law. In short, every film entered will be accepted for viewing. There is currently NO selection panel that pre-filters the films other than for adherence to the simple guidelines of each DVXFest.

What are the guidelines for the festivals?
---Guidelines vary from fest to fest. However, there is generally a maximum run time for each fest (for example 5 minutes). There is also generally a blanket genre or theme for each fest. It is loose. And, you will often find one "easter egg" type requirement for each fest. For example, one character in your film might need a specific name. Or, you may be required to make use of a pre-specified prop somewhere in your film. Guidelines are loose and are not meant to limit your creative process. Only to unify the body of films and to ensure that they were filmed for each specific festival.

How are the films viewed?
---As the DVXFest festivals are online film festivals, you will upload your film to one of our servers. All films will be released on a pre-determined date for download and viewing by the general public. In addition, your film may be selected for inclusion on a DVXFest DVD, which is a compilation of some of the notable films for each particular DVXFest. The DVD will be made available for purchase for any who wish to buy it.

Will DVXuser or anyone else own my film if I enter in the fest? Am I allowed to enter in other festivals if I enter this fest?
---DVXuser will not own your film. The only thing you grant dvxuser is permission to exhibit your film online and to use your film in the aforementioned DVD release if it is selected for inclusion. You are more than welcome to enter your film in other film festivals, or do whatever you wish with it. The only thing we ask is that you not publicly screen or promote your film prior to it's premiere on DVXuser. After that time, you can do whatever you like with your film, and you are not bound by any contract by DVXuser.

How often is DVXFest?
---Currently we hold about 4 DVXFest Film Festivals each year.

Are there prizes?
---There generally are. Prizes vary from fest to fest. Our largest prize pool to date was about $10,000 dollars worth of equipment donated by sponsors for "All Hallows Fest". We do have wonderful sponsors, and they generally step up to the plate with great contributions to the festivals. But, the emphasis (and the real value) is on member participation and feedback. The prizes are an added bonus. You may get a package of tapes, or you may get a brand new HD Camera. Both have been prizes in the past. It just depends :) To view an example of our most recent prize pool, go HERE (http://www.dvxuser.com/jason/HallowsPrizes).

How are the prizes/winners chosen?
---Winners are chosen by the vote of all eligible DVXuser members. Those eligible to vote are anyone who have entered a film in the current fest, and any other DVXuser members with 100 or more posts. In otherwords, the fest is for anyone who wants to participate. It's for the people, and by the people.

Why should I enter a DVXFest Festival?
---Because. You don't have to, of course. It is here for you if you want it. Our fests have become quite popular, and continue to grow. It is an opportunity for anyone who wants it to give themselves a reason to get off their tails and go out and make a film. It is an opportunity to create something and have it viewed by your peers and responded to by your peers. It is an opportunity to grow, learn and collaborate with folks like you and folks from all walks of life and experience levels. DVXuser has a vast membership base from High Schoolers, to freelancers, to Emmy-Award winning producers, and Oscar Nominated Documentarians. We are a strong community, and this is just another way to reinforce that while continuing to grow your craft.

This is the beginnings of the general FAQ for the DVXFests of DVXuser.com. This list will be updated as time goes by.

The DVXFest Festivals on DVXuser.com are a unique online film festival. Entry is free and open to all. Every film entered will be viewed by the public at large and responded to and voted on by your peers. This is a unique opportunity to get your work out there and learn from others like you as well as view their accomplishments. To top it all off, we have some great sponsors who make some of the best equipment out there who donate to each and every fest.

Thanks,
Jason

It may vary with future fests, but the current fest and the recent fests have been h264 compression.

Rules and submission instructions are posted in each fest's special area of the forum (the fest at the top of the main DVXuser front page is always the current fest) in specail threads stickied to the top of that section.

And, eventually a lot of this kinds of stuff will move over to its home on DVXfest.com. Rules for each fest, tutorials for compression, etc, etc. As well as a downloadable archive of each and every film from the current fest all the way back. It just takes time, but hopefuly you can see the progress that has been made with the last few fests, and this next one will hopefully show things really starting to come to fruition.

Yes... and yes. Foreign films always seem to do well.

We're all kinda waiting to hear. Usually a week or so after the current fest is over something is announced, but they've been talking about putting it on hold for a little bit to regroup.
