first off...

if this question has been covered before feel free to link me to those threads.

ok...

i just got my hvx200. and i want to get it set up with all current drivers. i have been to the panny driver page. downloaded the drivers etc.

the question is this... do i need to buy a media card and media card reader in order to get my camera all updated and ready for 16gig cards?

if not... if somone could walk me through my initial set up that would be great.

thanks

tony

You should get a SD memory card if you don't have one already.

It is needed to update the camera firmware (V4.06 is the latest, you can check your camera's version in MCR mode using MENU -> PROPERTY -> SYSTEM INFO), and the SD card is also used if you want to keep more than six scene files, user files, or metadata templates.

You need a way to copy the firmware update from the download site to the SD card.

So, yes, you would need a SD reader -- usually USB.

Download the firmware update. Leave it on your desktop.

Have the camera format the SD card - at least 40 MBs.

Copy the correct folder to the card.

Power the cam with the AC adapter.

Insert card in SD slot, and follow the instructions in the manual

Are you certain you even need to update your firmware?
If you JUST got your HVX then its possible it already has the latest firmware loaded.
You may want to double check what version your camera is running first.

Unfortunately I don't have my camera with me, so I'm not certain I remember exactly how to do that right now...

thanks for the help

but i did get a card and reader. which i need anyway. but as i was finally digging into the camera i think i am already set for 16gig cards.

16 gig cards are on the way. by the way.

ablecinetech has them instock.

and there was a place in memphis that had one card.
that is if you are looking.

thanks again
