I dont know if this is the proper place to pose this question. But since I am shooting with an HVX I guess its alright.

I have been shooting in the standard 1:85:1 aspect ratio. One day I was editing and for the fun of it I cropped my footage to 2:35. I have to admit I loved the 2:35 even more.
Unfortunately I am torn due to the fact that a lot of people I know have a bias against the 2:35 aspect ratio due to the bigger black bars. I realize you cant please everyone but I am wondering what is the best option of shooting for both aspect ratios. Because i have cropped my past footage to 2:35 and it looks good considering i didnt frame for the 2:35 composition. The only footage that suffers is the shots i framed really close up. I figure if i frame with proper headroom then i will be fine in whatever aspect ration i shoot.

I want to have options for the final product. To have two versions.

You may have answered your own question . . .

My approach would be to decide before the shoot what the delivery aspect ratio is going to be and then frame/shoot accordingly. Yes, you can do both but IMHO then each will suffer (perhaps only marginally).

best.
