footage: 1080 24fps shot with an HV20. A small portion of the footage is shot 30fps (mixed in randomly)

Throughout the process of importing footage into AE and then rendering an output, I've noticed that there are numerous places to adjust/input the framerate. You can do it when you interpret the footage. You can do it in the render settings. You can do it in the output module. And if I remember, a few other places (I think - I might be exagerrating just a bit).

All of this is very confusing to me because in addition to it, the 24 frames per second are occurring in a 30 frames per second shell (right?) So my question is, where are the "master" settings; the settings that are universal? And if the 24fps ARE in a 30fps shell, why do you need to tell AE that the frame rate is 24 frames in the first place? What exactly will happen if you get it wrong?

Same exact concept when using vegas or any NLE your have your PROJECT SETTINGS
then you have your RENDER setting (the ones you can adjust when you tell it to render).

so what happens if you get it wrong? if you tell it it's 30fps when it's 24, or vice versa?

If you don't set it up right you get a render that doesn't play correct.

believe me, I'm not trying to be cute here:

but wouldn't interpreting your footage as 30fps or 24fps BOTH be correct? Seeing as the 24 frames are occurring in the 30 fps shell? or if you shoot 24p, you should definitely interpret the footage as "24p" all the way through?

Also, because I do have 30 fps mixed in randomly (mainly for slo-mo), how would I differenciate interpreting that footage, if it's mixed in with the 24p stuff?

Why are you putting files with different frame rates in AE when your just using it to color correct? I repeat myself again............... Learn the basics and you won't have to ahve 5 or 6 threads going expecting other people to teach it to you.

If that's to harsh I apologize and I also understand why in a thread below you said you were 'terrified" about working in AE. I can see why..........again just stating the obvious in a way that could be considered "tough love"
