Nice poster. Is that a picture of blood on a wall, or is it a picture of trees closely together with a filter to make them reddish? Might be a dumb question but i was just wondering.

And wonder you should......
Did you think by merely asking we would tell you all the details of our story? You'll have to wait for the film to see what happens.
Seriously, we are trying to keep a lid on this because if it does have a surprise in it, you wouldn't want to know ahead of time. It'll ruin all our fun.
Let's just say, a great many people have come forward to put money, time, equipment and faith in the project and the TEAM behind it. As far as seeing what Austin DVXUsers are capable of, you will have to watch the film.
I can tell you this, I have never run up against so much red tape and paperwork. Guess I should look at it as an indication of how serious this project is in comparison to previous works. ( they were very serious, but very guerrilla ) For this project I have been dealing with city departments and their bureaucracy, insurance companies, personalities, a sudden drought in talent, and a crazy work schedule.
The plus side though, meeting great and talented people to work with, seeing a vision coming together, watching people learn their craft and grow.
So what is in store, well we are casting this weekend and shooting on the 20th. No, it doesn't leave much room for anything, but I have faith in this group and I know we will pull it together and have it finished with days to spare.

Concerning the poster...

It was meant to be slightly ambiguous -- Is it blood? Is it wine? Is it trees?

Without giving away the story, as Will has already mentioned, the poster is intended to raise questions about the nature of the film.

Looks as though it's working! Glad everyone seems to like it.

I like it... but maybe I'm biased. Has anyone put together a sig banner for this?

Not yet... I can get one put together tonight. I'll post it up on the Wild Imagination Films site.

In trying to be professional filmmakers, we have been contacting the local Junta and trying to get permission to film in a city park after the hours it would usually close. Here is what we were told today.
They have no problem with our filming in a city park, provided we have a half a million dollar insurance policy and hire 2 off duty Parks Police officers at $45/hr.
This is not negotiable. My number one assistant spoke with the cop guy (she's a former law enforcement type) and explained this is a 5 minute "no budget" film and we couldn't really afford the $1000 plus for two cops for ten hours. His response.... "not my problem."
Does this just seem a little wrong? Or is it just me?

You pay your taxes and the man tells you to stick it! Not cool! Write your congressman.
Not sure if that would help... Good to know for the record.

I think it's probably a lost cause. Around here it's tricky business to mess with da man. I just wonder what they do when local college kids are working on their projects, or high school kids? I mean, just because I'm not in college and I'm a working stiff doesn't mean I have loads of cash to throw away.
Anyway, still scouting the backup plans.
Got a call from an actor friend of mine. He wrote a really great letter about what to put in a casting call to draw actors to an audition. I'll repost it in another thread.
Wish us luck, I am really hoping we can pull this off, but it seems the fates are aligned against us.

I could talk to them...

I've never been denied anything when I say, "Hi sir. I'm in high school and I am trying to make a film!"

Anyway, I won't be able to make it tomorrow. I'm shooting my own 24-hour film.

I'm certainly not condoning the officer's "not my problem" attitude, if this is exactly what he said, but it really isn't "his" problem. This is a city problem. Having been in law enforcement for 10 years myself, I can tell you that the officers have no say when it comes to "outside details". The city obviously has a policy for this type of stuff, which calls for 2 police officers (not that I totally agree with it, as it seems a bit exterme). Even if they were aloowed to, which they are not, I can't imagine any officers being on your set for 10 hours for free. I know you were not asking for this, but this may have been how he interpreted your friend.

Movie Stunts' post, while it will likely do no good, is probably the right avenue to take. Otherwise, why not attend a city meeting, or contact a city council member and petition them for a little help. They are the ones that can make it happen for you.

Just my 2 cents...

I did Medic detail for a couple of shoots and it was $250 a day. I think it's just this on top of everything else pushed my button.

Editing right now and it's looking like probably not...

Our lead actor shows up, we get ready to shoot and he says, "Oh and by the way I have to leave by 6," which was 3 hours away. Ouch.

I'm not expecting much because this was a high school thing so I used my friends as crew. None of them had ever been on a set before. Considering we shot in 3 hours it is... decent at best. It just isn't working right now. :undecided

Back to discussion. Sorry for tangent post.

edit at 5:20 - Just finished editing. Fun...

In seven days "Revelations" should be finished. This is a last minute project but despite time and other constraints and myriad problems, it looks like it's going to happen. Needless to say, there is a great deal of excitement in the WIF camp. Starting construction of some set pieces today. The wardrobe department brought their part of the puzzle in yesterday. SFX is in full swing and the weapons mistress has found us several things to choose from. Equipment is all gathered and everyone is eager for next weekend to get here. This week will see work on the score and sound effects as well as more art department fun. Oh yeah, we're also doing some shooting this week.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is going to be a huge day here at WIF. Some major equipment will be arriving, the last of the props, and final agreements on two rather unique locations will be made. Tonight we are working on sound effects and gathering samples for use in the film. Wednesday we role camera on our first scene. Very late in the game I know, but hey, I'm treating this like a 48 hour film contest. Just with lots more planning and information ahead of time.
Everyone on the project is excited and eager to get started. I can't wait to start rolling the camera.
Without getting ahead of myself, I am confident this project is going to look like what I would have liked the other films I've done to look like. So I invite all of you to check out this entry if for no other reason than to see how far we've come.

We just finished our first night of shooting. The location was perfect and conveniently located right next to my apartment. Our actor was a trooper as we put her through the SFX makeup and then tossed her in a pile of leaves and sticks. Oh, did I mention we chained her to a metal tube coming up out of the ground.
Tech time... while the images from the HVX in HD mode are beautiful, and the 25mm adapter makes it all depth of fieldy, man does it require a lot of light!
I knew it would, but was I surprised to see just how much it needs.

Thanks guys for all the support.
The gear is getting packed; light kits, extension cords (of the right gauges), microphones and adapters, batteries are checked, monitors are calibrated, lenses have been cleaned and every conceivably needed piece of equipment is in the car.
Props from wine to weapons, costumes, and an entire SFX team are at the ready. The script, shot list and ladder are on board and so now, I am going to relax and enjoy the rest of the second most beautiful day of the year. Perhaps a mind clearing mountain bike ride. Or a Zen road ride. I'd go to the gun range, but it's too far and wouldn't induce the pre-shoot calm I seek. Yes, I think the mountain bike is calling to me.

The shoot was a bust due to some equipment problems. What footage we got was beautiful but we won't be submitting anything for the contest. Thanks to all who pitched in and helped out, the cast was great and the crew worked really hard. Look for our story to get longer and reshot as a short film.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for ya Will. I think the basic concept / story is very suitable for a slightly lengthier format and would benefit from a longer running time.

What exactly were the "equipment problems" if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry the timing was so crappy for me.
I was looking forward to seeing this one completed.

Hopefully you'll still post it when it gets finished up.
