Hello All

I just wanted to take a second and give a serious ATTA-Boy! award to the folks at Letus. I ordered a new 35Economy adapter for a project I have coming up in few days. I am really sweating this one out due some unusual circumstances and time lines. I ordered this and requested that it be shipped Overnight so I would have it the following day. It is the following day and my Adapter arrived. Not only that, the communications over the past day were concise and fantastic.

I am so pleased with the construction of it. It feels solid and extremely well thought out. I cannot comment on other adapters as this is my first, however, it has exceeded my expectations by light years.

I have heard others complain that some adapters feeling "Cheap" or feel like they were made using common resources. I assure you, this is not one of those. It is sturdy-precision machined plastic and screams "passion of construction". I can only imagine what the Extreme is like being that it is all Aluminum. I was going to wait for the Extreme but my time restrictions made that impossible. Though I have not had a chance to fire it up yet, Im sure it will become a staple product in my company in no time.

My only suggestion is to make sure Letus puts their logo on the side of their product. if it were my brainchild, I would not be afraid to tell someone, "I Made That!"

Way to go guys!

If you are thinking of an adapter and decide to buy a Letus, rest assured, I think your in good hands. They really seem to care about the end user.

Im sure the other companies do well too, I just wanted to share my experience with the one I dealt with.

I will be writing up more as I put this into use.

I believe they are still on target but you should check directly with Letus.

I'm looking forward to getting my EX. Can't believe it's almost time for them to ship!

Let us know how it works out with your cam, post footages if at all possible.

Magiccat,

do you have photos of your adapter on rails? looks a bit different in design and looks like you could mount it on a traditional plate as opposed to the Cavision rail mount that the Extreme would require (for mattebox)

What camera will you be shooting with?

HI All

Glad the Insight was helpful to someone.

Chenopup: I do not have rails. I will be working of a modified rig I came up with until I can get a set of Rails in here.

I am a little embarraced to show the rail rig. It is part of an old Paper Prompter tripod mount. Esssentially it is overkill, but it will serve my purpose for the upcoming shoot Mon. There was no time to get rails and a focus pull.

Look 1st: I am shooting on an HVX. Gone are the days of 30 pound shoulder beasts for me. We dumped all our Betacams while the gettin' was good. Broke even on several HVX's. The smaller weight HVX swiss army knife is more up my alley. (Until I get my red, drool drool)

My corporate client gave me no notice on this shoot, but they wanted it very Cinematic. (It is a promo for an Oil Rig Prototype) I was able to build the adapter into the costs with their complete understanding. It was a golden guilt-free opportunity.

I got the very brief opportunity to play with some Nikon lenses my client had. I purchased the model with the Metal Flip adapter. It does not lock in the Nikon lenses. Here is a trick: I used a little Silicon Sealant. I built up a light base around the back of the lens, let that dry, and it fits more snugly. I used removable silicon window sealant so it peels off very easily and will not harm the lens with a little care. The metal flip ring is nice because I can flip it around and use Canon Lenses.

It is my understanding that if you use ONLY Nikon, and order the Economy35 setup for Nikon locking pin fitting, You cannot purchase another adapter ring for other brands of lenses. The actual machined plastic housing is different and will not accomodate flip ring. I imagine many will find this discouraging. For me it is a no big deal.. I am hoping they make make them available in the future but I am assuming that is part of why they call this the 35Economy. I have no qualms with that.

It is rather heavy, Hien from Letus told me that he has put the camera with the adapter through some "heavier than normal usage without rails and the weight has never been an issue. I am still going to support it with rails or a home made mount. I have visions of my HVX snapping in half under abnormal conditions. "Measure thrice, cut once" a construction worker told me once. I agree.

I will send pics. My lens and step down ring comes in tomorrow. Off I go!

The Extreme will be shipping with the Letus logo etched onto it.

And it looks purdy! Not sure how well the little Economy would like his plastic body etched with a laser like the Extreme.

Looking forward to some sample footage David. Best of luck on your shoot!
