Score is almost complete, Saturday is looking like is going to be the last day of CC and Rendering on my crazy Athlon laptop, can't wait to get the new PC :( Hey next fest around would somebody please team up with me please, I can't do this stuff alone anymore :) I would love some lighting help as well as some DP help in the DC area. Let me know let's start working on something early to get the team vibe going.

Can you tell us a little about the poster. Did you shoot that image yourself?
I also particularly love it when someone exudes confidence such as promising to scare ones' panties off. I'm assuming that guarantee still holds now that you've finished shooting and are editing? I'm ready for this one!
Dmitry Yun
10-17-2007, 10:30 AM
Hehe, Hi Mark. Can't wait to show it :) I do have confidence in it now that it's done (editing as well still need to score it) even more so than before :P . It's not the exorcist but I think it turned out great none the less and better have those panties ready in hand, hehehe. About the poster, yes I took that image with the Canon DSLR I believe I used the 50mm f1.8 lens and photoshop mostly, some color correction and other work; skin definition and tone and I used a lens flare in the eye retina, that's my wifes eye btw :).

SPOILERS!!!
Nice work!
I liked the flow of the story, you fit a lot in.
I'm not sure if I loved the "dream" thing at the end but then you hit me with the hook. :)
Some of the sound needed some work but not enough to really distract.
Very well done.
Cheers,

I totaly need a mood booster or I quit filmmaking :) hehe jj, but seriously I appreciate bad comments too you know. Bad feedback is no feedback, let me know where I can improve so I can take that to the next fest with me. I know I should take more time next time around and not finish everything in two days and work on the sound :) but what else...

I like how the two conversations were interwoven in the beginning. The film had some interesting moments. The acting was a bit weak but its tough to cast for these things. Good subject to explore and a fine attempt.

Hi Dmitry. This film felt very different from many of the others i've seen on this site. Perhaps it was the accent adn the way you move the camera. The horror in this piece is brother vs brother. A new twist on the Cain and Abel archetype. Kudos.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it! What do you use Shake, AE, ? I've been teaching mysef shake for the past 4 or 5 months, but still have ALOT to learn!
Ok so I finally downloaded the whole thing, towards the end is it supposed to strobe like that or did I get a bad Download again?
The previous times I downloaded it, it froze my quicktime player during playback and I had to force it to quit!
I have watched all the films now and this is the only one that has given me problems! I'm on my Macbook Pro, maybe I should try on my G-5? Damn Intels!
Dmitry Yun
11-01-2007, 12:28 PM
Yeah that was the problem I was experiencing, although cool it's not supposed to strobe ;) try this link: http://www.dvxfest.com/allhallowsfest/loader.php?id=9216
Thanks to Larry, I hope it works. I use After Effects and Combustion here and there. But I also use 3DsMax and Zbrush for modeling. Still in a learning process, but I used AE to make the girl crawl on the ceiling for this entry. But I bet no one even noticed :) it's really subtle. Like Find Waldo. hehe

REVIEW:
Some good stuff here. Acting wasn't too bad, I thought the woman did well. I like the lighting stuff you did when the lights went out. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

I liked your film, in my top ten! Was kinda slow getting started but had a good surprise ending. I wondered what the title meant - now I know!
Technically was a little rough around the edges, ie. lighting, acting, but the story was good. Love triangles are alway good story fodder. So much conflict potential!

dmitry,
finally got a good copy of this to watch all the way through. After it ended it kinda dawned on my what the story was about and I had a "damn, that's clever" kind of moment, and it was a very nice tie-in to the title.
Nice subtle lighting work with the flashlight, the whole thing had an organic feel to it. I feel the acting could have been a little stronger, the characters should have played a little better off each other, and watch out with your framing, a couple times in the beginning, the husband's head was getting cut off all the way to the eyes.
Nice work, again, clever!

Oo thanks for the review very insightful, will do better next fest around. I realli liked in pieces btw and I have my two cents on the thread. Cool lights, I don't know the issue that you're having. It seemed to be fixed, did you try playing it with media player classic? Thanks abunch.

Hey Dmitry Yun,
This was a good story. I thought a lot of the shots were done pretty well.
One thing is that actor's have strong accents and that is distracting for me. I think it would be more engaging if it were in the actor's native tongue with subtitles. I hope I'm not offending anyone because I'm not meaning too. I know it could be a problem if not all the actor's spoke the same language.
I understood what you were trying to do with the audio effects but a lot of them stood out too much and were more distracting then helpful. The heartbeat sound is too cliche though.
I thought the story was very real and had a good natural progression and that's one of the hardest parts. The technical stuff with come easier the more you shoot. Good Job.
Laters,
Ando
Dmitry Yun
11-08-2007, 12:37 PM
Thanks Ando, it's not insulting at all about the accents, I was contemplating on shooting this thing in russian but in the end didn't have time to rewrite the script. My actors came from Baltimore and that's a 1:30 hour drive to me, and they're all busy with full time jobs as I am and me and the main actor have kids so it was a bit of a hassle to make this in time :) Plus I only had about 4 hours with them to completely shoot this, figured why bother :) But. I'm going to shoot my next entry in Russian, I'm already brainstorming ideas and getting ready for it. I officialy promies to do a better job with audio, it's hard shuffling around when you're a one man team, but I will take more time next time around to make sure I edit in all the FX nicely and fluidly plus my brother just set up his music and sound studio so we should be more then golden.
BTW loved your entry I was laughing like crazy, your actor was hillarious.

Hey Dmitry. I appreciate what you were going for here. I always like it when people find a way in these fests to go for real human drama.
I thought it worked for the most part and your actors had lots of good moments.
Some good creepy moments too like the blood on the wall.
:)
