View Full Version : How can I shoot in 1080i and end up with 1080p using FCP 6?

Hi all. . .
I'm using the HVX and Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 6).
I used to use FCP 5, and it had a button that allowed us to dump the duplicate frames during film imports so that we could go from 1080i to 1080p. I can't find this button on FCP 6 now, however.
I definitely want to shoot in 1080, but I don't want interlaced footage. What is a guy to do???
Thanks much.

First, make sure you've run software update and are on FCP 6.x The inital release of FCP 6 had a bug that would render it incapable of what you're trying to do.
In the properties of the Log and Transfer window, make sure that the checkmark to remove advanced pulldown is set. Then when you transfer your 1080 24pA clips, the pulldown will be removed.
Other than that, make sure you're shooting with Advanced Pulldown on the HVX.

Hi there, Krestofer. . .
The trouble is this. . . on my Log and Transfer window, there IS NO "remove advanced pulldown" button. At least none that I can see. Where is it on your screen, anyway?
Thanks very much.

Okay! I just found the button. . . hidden deep inside. Now, what is this about FCP 6.0 having a bug that's been fixed? I just went to software update and it didn't tell me that 6.0 had any available updates at all! (And I have not updated since I purchased it. . . I was the first one in the country to get it I think! I bought it as soon as it was announced.)
Thanks very much.

The current version of FCP is 6.0.1. If thats what you're on, then you're OK. If you're on 6.0 there has been an update. If Software Update isn't pulling it for you, you might go to Apples site and try to find a place to download it.

Sometimes you have examine what you see in the software updater to determine if you must update the ProApps support file first in order to have to run again and locate the updaters.
without the first update, you won't see the others.
