Anyone else experienced any problems with the Letus35 FE getting stuck on the camera or causing some wear and tear damage to the threads. I have only used the Letus35 with a rod support system.

It is getting harder to remove each time I use it and it appears to be damaging the threads on the lens. DVX 100B

Jason, gut a 72mm UV filter and install the ring on your DVX. Then any thread damage is to a disposable filter ring...not your cam :-)

Anything will damage threads if it's not perfectly and properly screwed in. Dennis' advice is brilliant -- attach an empty filter once, properly, and then in the future if you ever get threads misaligned it'll be happening to the disposable filter and not to your built-in camera threads.

I know that if I didn't have a 72mm > 82mm ring on my HVX I probably would have stripped the threads a bit ago. Good advice from Dennis.

Dennis ,
I'm pretty impressed that you're helping someone fix a problem with a competitors unit. That's pretty classy in my book.

So is this the right filter Dennis was talking about for DVX100B?

I wouldn't put a UV filter in there, I'd punch out the glass and use it as an empty ring. You don't want some filter on your lens all the time that can potentially degrade your image, if it's not necessary. That's why Dennis said to gut the filter.

When I had the LetusFE..it noticed it shreded the threads on my UV filter..but I'm glad I still had the glass on mine because I would rather damage the cheap UV filter than scratch my Canon/Pany's lens. But now with Wayne's adaptor I don't have any problems of metal or paint shavings coming off the thread anymore.

Aok, any 72mm filter like that would be perfect.

jeez,
I didnt realise attaching an adapter directly to the camera threads would cause problems. I specifically ordered my Letus ecnomy with 82mm threds so I wouldn't have to deal with a step up ring. (I'm a noob with 35mm adapters.. so I've got it in my head that attaching and alligning the adapter to the camera would be much easier with 82mm threads that attached directly to my hvx, rather than using a step up ring.. please correct me If I'm completely wrong)

Either way I don't want to be damaging my camera in the short or long term. Changing my Economy order to 72mm thread. Step up ring shopping tomorrow (or soon) it looks like for me.

You don't have to use a step ring if you are nervous about your threads. As mentioned above, get a cheap 82mm UV filter and pop the glass out of it. Use the threaded metal ring as a stand-off between your camera and adapter. That gives you a straight 82mm -> 82mm connection with no need for size stepping.

ok, thanks for that.

But was my noobish assumption, that using a 72mm -> 82mm step ring would make attaching and alligning the adapter more difficult than Using straight 82mm threads, incorrect?

I will order a 72mm filter tomorrow.

Thanks everyone! Glad to hear things from you people!
I'm from Japan, and also had a same problem with letus35, damaging my DVX's thread.
I'll be looking forward to purchase one of those filters.

Thanks again!

Purchased one of the filters and problem solved. I have to say I would not use the Letus 35 FE without one. Not because of the damage, but it makes it much easier to mount. This was a great fix. A big thanks to all who responded and Quyen at Letus. They have fantastic support.
