Hi everyone,
I am handling the post production of a short that was shot on an HVX-200 at 720p60. I'm relatively new to the HD game and have a question.
If we shot at HD 720p60 with an aspect ratio of 960x720 is this really HD? I was always under the impression that the only true HD aspect ratios were 1280x720 and 1920x1080.
Can anyone shed some light on this situation?
Thanks!

Yes it's "really" HD. As you search around you'll find that practically no HD recording format (including the big names like HDCAM or DVCPRO-HD) actually record the full frame size, they all shrink it down before recording. HDCAM doesn't record 1920x1080, it records 1440x1080, etc. It's just the way HD recording has been done.

So if I am editing with this footage and I export a QuickTime movie set at those native settings:
Frame Size: 960x720
Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720)
And with the compressor set at 'NONE', would the Quicktime movie also be of true HD resolution/size?
If not, what is the best way to go about getting it up to 1280x720 or 1920x1080?
Thanks!

One more issue,
So I export a Quicktime File at the settings I listed above but the resulting movie comes out at a pixel aspect ratio of 1280x720.
This is what I wanted, however, I would like to gain an understanding as to why this happened (exporting a video at 960x720 and having it come out at 1280x720).
Thanks!
