Man I've been wanting one of these since first reading Barry's write-up (and comments from others who have made the leap since then). The one and only thing holding me back is the lens situation.

Seems like there are not a lot of cameras (HPX500's, with lens choices) to be had, although it's fair to say I've not kept up with it day by day.

I look foward to a time when they'll not only be available but there will have been enough "other" lenses tried and proven that will permit me to make an informed (and un-regretable) buying decision.

While my needs are subject to change over time, I'm pretty much locked into documentary for the next 12 months or longer. I'm thinking I should get the camera and cards then just rent (or determine) what would be a suitable lens for this period of time. Yep, I know, even the most expensive packaged lens is "only" 12k and only a fraction of the expensive primes . . . it's just that I don't want to spend that much for a lens not properly suited to mostly cu's or medium shots.

Meanwhile I'll be standing by, happily devouring any info that comes down the pipe from the rest of you good folks on this subject.

Best.

If you hire a lens for 12months, youd probably be able to buy one for the same money

Good point. I should have been more specific: Buy the correct one now for the intended purpose. Rent for anything else required of the job(s) as necessary (for the shorter periods).

I guess part of what I was hoping for was a recommendation for reasonably affordable glass (primes) . . .
