Hi everyone,
again probably a question with a simple answer but i have been experimenting, tearing out my hair trying to export from fcp6,:badputer: i have final cut studio 2 so the new compressor software is installed,
anyway i am tring to export firstly an un-compressed file,
and secondly a widescreen file (maybe h.264) for web download, no matter what i try it seems to always be a 4:3 file,
please can somebody help me and describe a suitable method for these two export settings,
Thanks
also if anyone knows what is the best format for me to export, reasonably good quality for transfer to a PC for use with another PC based program such as flash cs3
Thanks again

What file with what sequence settings to what uncompressed format are you trying to export.
As to a 16:9 export to h.264, apply the 800 kbps QT7 preset for h.264 web, and then modify the geometry in the settings inspector to 16:9 and save it as a custom pre set.

yea dave hit it on the nail for you. but as he asked yes what sequence are you working with and is it really an uncompressed 4:4:4 proj? anyways what i like to do is still export the file as a quicktime movie and not goto compresser directly from finalcut. you tend to get field issues sometimes and pixelation.... just export it same as the source then do as david explained. should be fine.

its a dvcpro hd 720p25 sequence and i need an uncompressed/best quality format to be used in pc file convertion programmes (i thought quicktime was my only option, i am very new to mac and fcp6) what is supported? i just need it to be readable on a PC,
its not 4:4:4, just want to export at as good a quality as i can,
thanks for the h.264 info, I'll try that

just to let you know tho. dvcpro hd is a compressed format so i was a little confused when u said uncompressed. anyways yes just export the sequence same as source how ever you brought it in (dvcprohd 720p25) then open compresser and adjust your setting to how you would like it.. if your streaming for web def mess round with frame sizing and also adjust your audio compression as well. audio can take up a nice chunk of that file size beleive it or not.

thanks,
will a PC be able to read that 'same as source' file though, i thought the computer had to have final cut pro installed to obtain the dvcpro hd codec, what is my best option to obtain the highest quality possible from a 720p25 timeline for use on PC i need the file as good as i can get it and have it readable by AE, flash cs3 and a divx converter,
thanks again for the help (the web export settings mentioned above seem to have worked out well)

you can grab the full version of flip for mac and create an avi with any specific codec thaet you desire i believe... i know thats the qucktime file isnt gonna be the greatest thing to work with on the pc side so try to get it converted on the mac side first... i would try flip for mac and just export it with quicktime once you have that plugin installed. reply after and let me know the outcome.

thanks for the ideas andypaintguns, i might try that flip4mac thing but would prefer an option that didnt cost money for another programme,
surely i'm not the only one who has wanted to output a file at best quality for use on a PC, i have 'cleaner' on my pc and would like to use that for my compression needs,
any other help out there?

Cleaner has not been updated in years and it just might be time to bid it a fond farewell and move on to something that will do the job for you.

you may be right in terms of a farewell to cleaner but i still need an export format that can be read by other PC based programmes such as Flash cs3 after effects, my divx converter, i cant afford to buy all these programmes for mac again, there must be a good quality format that can work on both operating systems, without too much cost,
anyone??

cleaner 6.5 could do the trick as well.. i know its old but if you set everything to your liking i think itll be successful.
