Hey gang-
I am experienced post person both in FCP and Afte rEFfects- but I amnew to the hvx 200 and nwo onw one- I shot some 720p 24pn fps to my single 16 gig P2 card- I can get the card to mount to the desktop- "no name" is what its called. However when I try to copy the whold contents folder to my media drive the progress bar goes nowhere and the system kinds just hangs. When tyring to import using log and transfer in FCP 5 sometimes the media will show up and other times it wont. However, if it does and I select a clip and say add to que I get the Spinning beach ball of death.
I am under the impression no drivers are required with FCP 6 and I can get the p2 card to mount but what gives?
ANY advice appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Just out of curiousity, is your media drive also an externally connected FW or USB drive? If that's the case, I'd try copying it to your desktop first and then to your media drive. Actually, I'd even try doing the P2 Import/Log and Transfer with the copied materials on the desktop. Then just set the save point/capture scratch to your media drive. I've had the best luck with importing P2 materials when I copy the card straight the desktop, then import, then move the files afterwards. And you shouldn't need any kind of driver no. Good luck.
cheers.

Yup I would check the drives. Also how are you connecting? This is the DVD for you:

I appreciate the quick replies. The media drive is a internal sata drive in my Mac Quad. I have tried just importing when in FCP using Log and transfer (new to fcp 6 ) and still things just lock up- am I correct to say that NO driver download is required? I imagine if it mounts then Im ok when it come to drivers

mdezz,
You shouldn't require any drivers, no. If you have FCP 6 then you should be good to go. So the internal SATA rules out the secondary firewire connection issue. How about if the files are on the desktop? It shouldn't be that big a deal to have it on your internal Media drive, but I recall last summer people commented on threads when having troubles with a drive they would just go to the desktop and that seemed to work for them. So just another thing to at least try on your end.
Cheers.

Ill try dumping just to the desktop to see what that does. I am up at an agency today doing some work for them here- So when I get back to my studio Ill try that.
Any other suggestions other then the dump to desktop as opposed to my secondary drive- is also welcome.
Thanks in advance-

ok so I tried just copying to the desktop and of the 2.82 gigs it froze up at 46.3 mb copied. Im not sure what else to do. Is the camera in the wrong mode? Bad Cable?
Prob not. When it does freeze the only way to try again is to shut the camera down which gives me the firewire devise was not shut down properly message from the mac. Maybe I corrupted the data on the p2 card? Ugh - frustrating Help appreciated

What happening no matter how I try to copy the data- in pieces or the whole contents folder- The p2 card as a firewire device just hangs - it says it going tcopy and I get the copy progress bar but no progress and it just hangs I cant even cancel out of the copy function. I have to hard shut down the camera - has anyone else had the exp?
I also tried using p2 genie- same results - anyone have this happen to them?

I'd do a software update on the Mac and a firmware update to the camera.

Software is up to date on the mac - the hvx is brand new and I have just sucessfully copied the p2 contents to my g4 laptop 12 " using the same firewire cable. so now Im really perplexed

Maybe there is an issue with the FW port on your Mac then. If it all copies fine to another Mac then the issues would be OS/software or FW port/hardware, as far as I can see. You could try a different FW port (use the rear one if you've been using the front one, or vice versa), or if you can cheaply/easily get access to a FW card, you could stick one of those into the box and then try using that and seeing if it will work for you then.
cheers.
