I'm looking for advice on replacing the standard view finder with the AJ-VF20WBE View Finder. First will it work and second is it worth doing.

Thanks.

Jay Nemeth says "I put the VF20 on mine. It's a 2" 16x9 finder and it's a huge improvement over the stock VF."

That's good news. Until now the VF was my biggest issue with this camera.

Maybe we'll start seeing different pacakges with the VF20 already...

Thanks for that. I’m in a real quandary with my purchase of this camera. The view finder was one and I have others

…..because this is camera head is pretty much based on SD technology would my SD pictures be equal to the SPX900 or less. I read somewhere that this camera is not as sensitive because it’s trying to resolve HD images.

One of the major reasons for purchasing was that I would be building up my arsenal of 2/3” inch lenses which will reduce my upgrading costs probably in 12 months, but some people are telling me the Fujinon XA17 X 7.6 breaths too much and would not be suitable for filming drama. It’s been built down to a price even though its HD. If that’s the case it sort of throws my theory out the window.

Were running a Canon HDxs HJ17e on ours at the moment, but have a Fujinon XA17 on order. The Canon costs twice as much as the Fujinon. Will post our comparisons once it arrives and we get time to test it.

That knowledge will be most helpful. Can you enlighten me as to the SPX900 comparison in SD or anything similar. Thanks

Were using an HPX, have no experiance using the SPX Im afraid, your probably getting better value for money with the HPX because it's newer generation IMO

Based on SD technology? Don't know what that's meant to imply (I mean, I do, but I reject the premise of the statement) but as far as sharpness goes the HPX500 will be absolutely as sharp in SD as an SDX900. SDX900 has more extensive control over the image though.

Trying? It resolves HD beautifully. It is a true 2/3" HD camcorder.

As for sensitivity, it's about ISO 960. Faster than the DVX when the DVX is in progressive mode, not as fast as the DVX when the DVX is in interlaced mode.

Fujinon XA17 X 7.6 does indeed breathe a lot - but if you have good knowledge of DOF and focal lengths and have good charts you can control it in many situations and shoot beautiful narrative work with it.

Barry, have you tested the HPX with the Canon CAC lens?

Used, briefly. Tested, no. But in the brief usage I had, I wasn't all that impressed with the CAC performance of the Canon vs. the Fujinon I've spent more time with. However, there's a firmware update that addresses the CAC function, so maybe it's better now?

G'day I just noticed you are in Perth, we are Darwin based. How are you finding the HPX say compared to Beta SP or Digi? for SD broadcast work and can I ask where you purchased from.

Thanks, Ian
