Hi all,
I'm having an issue with interlacing on my computer screen.
It looks fine on a TV, but this file is suppossed to be played on computers.
Even with deinterlacing done, it still looks interlaced.
Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks

Ha ha, great avatar! What are the odds of that?
So: all video that is not progressive has the potential to show interlacing on a computer display. Interlaced footage at 30 fps (29.97) is composed of 60 fields, two fields combine to make each of 30 frames. Computer displays are progressive and will show the A and B (or odd and even) field of a frame at the same time. Each field lasts for 1/60 of a second, so if there is any motion between fields, you sill see that comb-like interlaced effect in objects in motion.
How to get rid of this?
A) Shoot progressive
B) Try resizing the quicktime video frame size. You'll notice that the interlacing gets much more subtle and might disappear completely at frame sizes smaller than 640 x 480.
C) Interlace your footage somehow. This will be available to you in all pro editing, effects or compression programs. Obviously, results will vary depending on the specialty of the program. There are a couple different methods here. One method will throw out one of the fields, either the odd or the even, and double up on the remaining fields. This can result in motion that is a little more stuttery. The other method blends both fields together into a single frame, but this is obviously going to be a little more smudgy. Sometimes you will see "adaptive interlacing" which is supposed to isolate the areas in the frame where interlacing is occuring. You'll have to experiment to see which method you like best.
You can do quite a bit within Quicktime alone. You can export in Quicktime and enable the "Deinterlace source video" option in the frame size settings. You can also go to "Show Movie properties" in an open quicktime movie and play with the checkboxes on the video track - "Deinterlace" and "Single Field."
Good luck!

Thanks Jared!
It's great to see a fellow Tintin fan.
Thanks a bunch for your suggestions.
It's actually stills that are interlaced. All the video footage looks fine.
I'll try what you said within Quicktime.
Cheers!

No problem, hope you figure it out!
