i JUST recieved my HVX in the mail today from B&H. i'm overly excited as i am sure you all were too! however, when i lifted the camera out of the box for the first time, it made a 'clunk' noise. almost as though something internally is loose. it only makes the noise when i rock the camera back and forth... is this 'clunk' noise normal or should i be worried? =\ !

It does this when its off...When its on, or in playback mode (which you should never go into) You won't hear it. It only occurs when the camera is off. This applies to both the DVX and the HVX. So all in all, you are fine and its perfectly normal! Ffor more information, go to this link:

Why should you never go into playback mode?

Well, TheComo has a DVX and it is said you shouldn't play back a tape in your camera because of head ware, but I disagree. The DVX's (and I would guess the HVX's) heads have about 1000 hours in them so play back that tape if you need too. Regarding P2, well this become a non issue so don't worry about it.

It clinks on playback (or off) because the OIS assembly isn't engaged, and that is what makes the noise.

I've said it a thousand times, the first thing you have to do when you get your HVX - BEFORE YOU SHOOT ANYTHING - is soak it in water for up to 24 hours. This is the only way to get rid of the clunk.

It doesn't clink on playback (or off) because the OIS

don't you meen (or on)?
