I have had this happen on a hvx200 and the new 500 now. I was using a shotgun mic both times and phantom power was on. Two different mics, two different cameras. What happens is all of the sudden you loose audio, in a particular scene file, the internal mics don;t work either, no audio nothing, switch to a different scene file and audio is fine switch back to currupt scene file and its gone again. I reload the scene file and you can get audio on that scene file again! Anyway the first time it happened it wasn't the best time and my client is looking at me like I don't know what I am doing. So if it happens to you just switch scene files untill you have time to reload the scene file. I guess what I am wondering is why the camera does this? I know a old school Sony guy that I talked into getting a 500 and a bunch of cards, even though he likes the idea of tape for ease of use got burned by this problem and now is doubting his purchase and is allready thinking of selling it and going the xdcam route. Any help ? Sorry if this was posted elsewhere I searched audio problems with no luck.

Is it possible you were overcranking or undercranking? If you were, that would explain why you didn't get any sound. Since scene file changes are lost when you turn the camera off unless you explicitly save them, it could also give you the impression that there is a problem that is cured by turning the camera off and back on.
