View Full Version : My DVXUSER anniversary

as coincidence plays out, today is my 3rd anniversary since joining dvxuser, and although i havent been very active lately, i thought i would leave a post to say thanks to jarred for keeping this site up and running, and thanks to all the friends and contacts i made in the past.
and now for the fun part...we shot a music video over the last 2 days for Jonathan Clark (http://myspace.com/jonathanclarkmusic) with 2 DVX100 cameras and a mini35 (PK Gillock will be happy to learn that the mini35 was attached to his old baby and held and operated by the director himself, Gary Oldman, fresh off the set of Dark Knight)
I promised PK i would take good care of his camera, and i have.
we still have one or two days of shooting to go and we're applying some effects to still photos taken as well, so this is far off from screening. i just wanted to share the experience here at dvxuser and found it mildly entertaining this all fell on the weekend i originally joined here.

dude, that's not Oldman, more like Jeff Foxworthy. You don't have to lie to kick it. Good to hear you're still alive. duce!

You sure have! That is SO COOL. And all this time I thought my old camera was roaming the streets of LA, being used to shoot TMZ stuff. lol
I guess this means the camera will go up in value. :)

By the way I still think "Poker Night" should of WON! It was one of the best shorts made by a DVX user!!!
Kirk Gillock
09-25-2007, 11:30 PM
I agree. Poker Night was the best. It was perfect and I voted for it too.
But I guess the loss hasn't hurt Antomic's career at all. Afterall, he's rubbing shoulders with Gary Oldman now. Whereas the winner of the contest was forced to sell his camera, buy a moped, and now spends his days spamming web forums and begging people for money (or clicks). So, in a way, "Poker Night" did win and "The Loner" is now "The Loser". lol

Hey PK, are you totally camera-less? Would you get back into filmmaking if you had a camera? Maybe I'll donate my HV20 to Isara if it means you'd make more films...
Kirk Gillock
09-26-2007, 10:28 AM
An HV20 is too nice of camera for little ole me, but it was a very nice thought, Barry.
Sorry to hijack this thread but, now that you mention it, it would be great to teach videomaking to the students at our Learning Center. Figure we could teach some of the students and then allow them to use a camera (supervised and in a controlled environment) to make short videos. This would go along with our photoshop and web design classes that begin in November. We'd also be able to use the camera to better document our charity projects.

Happy Anniversary Tony!
P.K. you rock and I hope you know that I lot of us on this board really admire you and what you are doing to help people. You should take Barry's offer (Barry is the coolest) and do both, Make films and teach since you excel at both.
Now back to our regular scheduled program!
Congrats to Tony and the 2 DVX100's!!!!!!!!

Barry_Green

Yes you've been gone that long, and it's about time you entered another DVXFest too.
Moved here a little over a year ago, along with Hudson and Jimerson. Still tryin' to get the rest of the crew together for a full-fledged Mod Squad DVXUser Studios operation, but Neil Rowe just won't do it... grr... :)

Thanks Elvis....you are too kind.
Gary brought by a rough cut the other day and it's looking spiffy. i few minor editing tweaks, then he's sending it to me for final color and some minor digital paint fixes.
i thought PK would love to see what i did to his little baby. i went all frankenstein with the mini35 and ghetto-cammed it on a sandbag on top of an apple box on top of my tripod dolly...who says you need to spend big bucks for quality shots?

Dear Loki,
i used the florescent setting 60i no mic with the sun. and they were expensive lenses.
Dear Antomic,
That is awesome! I usually use the sun also! I shoot mainly with my on Camera mic.. cause it sounds wicked!
I have a couple of really expensive lenses myself... they were like $100 each!!
HOLY MOLY they were pricey!

I can see that you cleverly ignored his question on which mic you used...
So I will ask again.
What mic did you use?

clever would be giving either of us too much credit.
for you see...it was a music video...therefore...no mic was used.

How are you going to record playback so you can later sync the music to the visuals?
Pshh, everyone in the business knows you need a mic. And usually a good one! I stole one from my church and jimmied it to work with the XLR inputs. It's amazing.
So don't give me this, "no mic was used" thing.

we just bring the artist in the editing bay and have him perform live while we cut it together.

My father had a friend who told me once when he was drunk that you should work SMART, not HARD.
His wife left him several weeks later, but that was because of his racist tendencies and not with what he told me.
Although years later, I still wonder..."what if?"

Golly,
That must be a crazy thing for the artist to do! Sing while you edit?!!?! Is it hard to keep them n'Sync ?

Funny you should say that Loki, I have n*sync's christmas album on right now.
