Well, that's not 24F. 24F is a Canon mechanism.

It might be Cineframe 24 -- which is probably where the pronounced strobe is coming from. I'd go with Cineframe 30 on that camera if you don't want 60i.

yeah i know its cineframe 24 but i thought i could say 24f. yeah, i just started using cineframe 30. i got confused with my friend who has a dvx and he told me to use, "24f". i think he got confused with his cam or something.

Honestly? skateboarding is over run with filmers editors and skaters, the way I see it is to do something totally unique and different from the rest to set my self apart. not trying to bum you out... but to encourage a creative fresh new look at skateboarding... you can check out my attempt at a new "look" @ www.pathosmedia.com and check out Tim Byrnes short. dont be afraid of being different... film different, edit different, film different types of skating... dont cookie cut... thats my advice... i've filmed and edited skateboarding for almost 8 years... you got a good eye... show the world something new!:D

I think this piece is way unique and different from the rest, personally. I remember when I used to film skateboarding (with a VX1K and the coveted "Death Lens") and it seems like just about every skate video I saw, from pros and non pro filmers alike, was just a bunch of fisheye shots following the skater while some generic SKA song played in the BG. Occasionally they'd throw a long lens shot in, to break up the monotony. It's been a while since I've watched a skate video, so maybe that's not the norm any more, but MasonBarnard's video struck me as an original take on skate videos. It felt almost like a narrative montage at some points. Excellent choice of music, subtle transitions and smooth camerawork for the most part. This video was evocative of all the lost weekends I used to have just filming and skating at the parks. Well done, for sure.

i dont think youv seen many skate videos or other montages of skateing latly. other then transworld skateboarding videos they are all making skateboarding look like its just falling and getting mad/throwing your board... i was trying to make it more about frinds at a park for a couple days haveing fun and nothing serious.

P.S. - i did enjoy the tim byrns 3 day part thing or whatever that was with you in LA filming him for 3 days. opening was sick.

Do a reverse telecine on Cineframe 24 with JES Deinterlacer to get rid of the strobe, which I've found comes from the way Sony samples the pulldown frames. JES removes them correctly (and automatically detects cadence) and gives you true 24p footage. I did a write up on it here--

It's hard to gage the quality level since it's on youtube. I like your camera movements though. Keep shooting. The little transition you did that ends up with the kids running was interesting. I see where you are coming from with your "day in the life" motif. Thats the way I shoot skate footage as well, but it's just for me and my friends.

Our concrete park is closed till April, nice to see some sunny skate footage, I'm jonesing to skate (concrete) again!!!!

Who the hell has been using ska? I've been involved with skate videos (making and watching) for over the last ten years and I have yet to see any thing in that genre.

to the original poster cruise over to my site, you'll get a lot of help there as far as skate filming

Good point. I was a bit confused about that one.

Don't get me started on skate soundtracks. I'm a product of the 80's. Future Primative, Streets of Fire, Blind "Video Days"....Now that's some skate music!
