I shot footage on a Canon HV20 in the 24P mode. I was told it records the footage at 29.98fps even in this mode onto the tape. I can still capture the footage using FCE. The footage looks jittery at times, but okay. Am I able to use this footage without pulling down the frames to 23.98?? Do I have to de-interlace the footage in the export mode?
I know I cannot eventually go 24fps, but can I export it at 29.98?? I want to use FCE if possible.

Here is a article about how to do the pulldown so that you can edit 24p rather than the weird 24f conformed to 29.98fps that it puts on the tape:

De-interlacing 24p within 60i would be a real mess. It'd still be jittery but it'd show half of the frame in half of the resolution then go to the next frame and it'd be the other half of the frame with the other half of the resolution on that frame. Does that make sense to you?

Pulldown removal will take the field (even) and blend it with the next field (odd) and discard the next field which will be a duplicate of another field (I'm not sure which one, the odd in the even position I believe) and then keep repeating the process. In the end you have 24p with no "mouse teeth" artifacts or ghosting.

Follow tcindie's link to learn how to remove the pulldown.
