Ok, I'm a total newb to this forum, though I've been lurking for a few months. I decided to start a thread, because if I don't do it now, I won't force myself to finish. So I'm gonna do it. I have the time (at the moment) and I have the tools. The only annoying thing, is that the idea I came up with just so happens to have been mentioned as an example in a post on here. Argh! Just know I came up with it before I read the post.
Also, what exactly CAN I post on here before the contest is over? I know we can't post footage. But I see storyboards and posters.

9/20/07- Begin Storyboarding
9/25/07-Storyboards/Animatic finished. on with the search for actors.
9/28/07- Found a possible actor. Must find an actress now. Finished CG creature model, on to the rigging!
10/01/07-Day one of rigging. Things are going well.....too well. Also, began making a shot list.
10/2/07-CG Model fully rigged. shot some footage that didn't require actors faces. Teaser Poster created.
10/4/07- First night of shooting with my actress. Lots of fun! Will post still frames this weekend hopefully.
10/10/07- Looks like I'm going to have to cast myself in the male role. Oh well, there goes any hope I had for decent acting. :) I hate being in front of the camera.
10/11/07- about half of the animation is completed. I did my first shots as an actor tonight. So not my thing.
10/15/07- Matchmoved about half of the fx plates.
10/25/07- not gonna make it. Sorry folks.
11/14/07- Mustache is grown back since shaving it for Halloween. Now need to get my hair cut back like it was a month ago, and then I'll resume shooting.

BTS info and pics

Ok, here is a quick teaser poster I made. The title is only temporary for now. Likely will be changed.

I had to use this wine when I saw the sticker! I mean, come on! If it's good enough for pro beach volleyball players...

Yes, more foil, a mic stand, 5 x 100w equiv. Daylight CFLs, a square power strip, some clamps, and a partridge in a pear tree. Put them together, and I've got a big bright blue light.

as long as it's not footage, you're fine.

Thanks dvpixl. So, BTS and storyboards and all that are cool, as long as no footage? I assume footage includes still frames from the short as well, right?
Oh, also, on the rules, it says something about the format being title, body of film, credits. Does that mean we have to have the title of the film right at the very beginning, or can it come up a few seconds in. I know that's probably a ridiculous question, but I don't want to make some minor mistake like that.

Still frames are fine as long as they don't move in rapid succession. as far as the rest just fallow the rules and you should be okay!

It's not a ridiculous question at all, in fact I want to know the answer to this as well.

I'm sure it is as the rules state. FORMAT title-body-credits a few seconds shouldn't matter as long as you fallow the FORMAT.

I just got with Barry and he has no problem with your title format djsmackmackey.

Well, if I were a betting man, I would bet that I'm not gonna get this thing done in time for the deadline. Too many bumps in the road, and I'm doing the jobs of directing, acting, dp, camera operator (in the any scenes I don't actually have to appear in), visual fx... oh yeah, and sound design and fx also. And I don't even have all of the footage shot yet. ugh! I'm gonna finish the damn thing, but it'll likely be done long after the deadline, and probably past the voting even. Sucks.

That's the spirit. There's still time, you can do it!

Btw, grand poster.

Also in response to what you originally said. You could even post a teaser trailer up, as long as it contains no footage from the actual film itself. Storyboards, Posters, Actor Images, Credits, News, Photos, Synopsis, Tagline etc.

yep, it's definitely not happening for me. I think I forgot to mention I'm also hosting a halloween party on Saturday, so there's just not enough hours in the day for me to finish this thing.
So, I might as well show the creature. I was saving the full view for the final release, but I don't know when that will be now. Probably Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Not exactly the same kind of mood in the air as with Halloween. :)

This is just a test render with some basic lighting to test out the rig and textures. Oddly enough, this guy hasn't been the most difficult thing so far. It's actually been fairly easy, cause I haven't had anything else to do at work for a few weeks, aside from small things here and there. So I've been allowed to work on this during the day. But finding time at night to shoot footage has been a pain. I can only shoot so much by myself.
Anyway, maybe there will be another contest I can enter with this thing when it's done.
