Saw it, and thought it was a solid film with excellent performances, but it kind of left me cold. I thought Crash was handsomely mounted but a little too relentlessly on message and certainly not Oscar material. Elah is more subtle and thoughtful but ultimately doesn't feel as though it amounts to much. Courage Under Fire, although no classic, is a better movie that ventures into similar territory. I didn't really need this movie to tell me that war screws people up. We're assaulted daily with horrible news coming out of Iraq so I don't think this film will make much of an impression on that issue. Too many filmmakers are tiptoeing around this subject (even Oliver Stone!) and I'd like to see one filmmaker just grab it by the throat and give us an Apocalypse Now or Platoon.
