I want to start off by saying, I'm NOT a Woody Allen fan. BUT, this movie looks great. Not a typical Woody Allen film. I will definitley see this when it comes out. Anyone else think it looks good?

I saw this on Saturday night... The first 30 minutes of the film was pretty bad - I was kind of shocked by what I considered to be poor writing. However, it really picks up when the action begins and I ended up thinking it was pretty good. Ewan MacGregor and Colin Farrell are both excellent, Tom Wilkinson is great for the brief time he is involved, but the greatest performance is from Hayley Atwell, IMO. She is amazing and supposedly the next big thing across the pond. I hope so.

That is exactly why I'm reluctant to watch it.

i'm NOT a woody allen fan. by any means. the reason i wanna see this is because of the acting talent in the film. ewan mcgregor is probably my favorite working actor right now. he's versatile. colin farrell is hit and miss for me. i'm not quick to jump on the farrell hating bandwagon.

I'm not expecting too much from this movie. But I'll definitely see it because i think any year now we're gonna get another really good movie from Woody. In my opinion, its been 9 years. Before that it was 8.
The whole productivity thing with certain directors is interesting. Guys like Woody Allen, Sidney Lumet, and Norman Jewison have each made like 50 movies. But only a handful of them are great. Its like the guys just need to work and make whatever movie they can.
Compare that to guys like Malick or Kubrick (interesting similarity in last name) who go 10 years between films. Its like with guys like Woody, if you're making that many films, a whole lot of them are probably going to be bad. But a handful of them are masterpieces. I think we'll get one more from Woody before he quits. I hope.

I didn't know there was one. I can't wait to see In Bruges. Martin McDonagh is badass.

This one is not a masterpiece. The last film he made that qualifies as a masterpiece is "Sweet and Lowdown," IMO.
However, I do believe this one is worth seeing. I skipped the last couple of Woody Allen films but I got excited about this one when I saw the preview last month.
Rafa, you should go see "Cassandra's Dream" just to see Hayley Atwell. BTW, isn't Woody filming his next feature in your neck of the woods right now?

yeah for me we'd have to go all the way back to Crimes & Misdemeanors.

He finished shooting here a while ago (the project is called "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"...a horrible name that I really hope gets changed). There was a big controversy because state student grants were partially being used to finance Mr.Allens' film.
He also played with his band here on new years' eve....I wanted to go...but my girlfriend was not too enthusiastic about the idea.
Woody Allen is very revered in Spain and there's even a city (Oviedo) that has a statue of him: http://eroessa-1.pblogs.gr/files/31947-woody-allen-statue-spain-oviedo.jpg

Bananas is one of the funniest films ever made. The last film of his I really liked was Bullets Over Brodway, which contains one of my favorite lines--
"I could love a man if he wasn't a real artist, but I couldn't love an artist if he wasn't a real man."

I gotta say "Love and Death" is one of his most underrated more comic movies. I just love it.

just got done seeing this movie. its an OK movie. i'd give it a B-. performances were good. i like colin farrell in certain roles, and you can't go wrong with ewan mcgregor. tom wilkinson is a great actor too. the problem with this movie is the script. it had a good premise but woody allen really fudged it. there was A LOT of exposition in the script that is GLARING. i couldn't believe it. worthy of a rental when it comes out just to check out the performances.

I don't see Woody ever quitting. I think we'll see 15-20 more films from him. (His father lived well into his nineties.)
