Follow Focus system

Hey guys and ladies, just got my 500 in my hands. NICE...

I need a recommendation from those of you who had used follow focus systems before. Especially those who had use it on the 500. My budget doesn't allow for high-end systems so I'll have to settle for cheaper ones. Please make a suggestion.

Chroziel makes fabulous FF. THeir DV mini which is lightweight runs about 1400.00. Worth it though. It's one of those things you hardly replace, like a tripod system. If you can wait RRock is coming out with a remote FF.

Given a choice, I prefer my AC's to use remote focus whenever possible. Being on or close to the camera axis is the worst place to judge distance as where being perpindicular to it (off to the side) is the best place to judge distance. It's like a car coming at you or watching it from a distance going left to right. The latter is much easier to determine it's rate and distance. My AC's who've adopted this method work faster, often not having to laydown marks that they would when they're next to the lens. This becomes incredible useful when the actor and camera move (handheld, crane or dolly shots). I'm surprised more AC's don't do the remote method. Last benefit is they're never in the actor's eyeline. It's catching on though.

Redrock plans to price their remote focus at 5-700 which is a steal. I've been holding off on my manual focus and wait with baited breath.

Cinetech makes a great unit that is about the price of the Chrosziel DV model but is built like the more expensive cine model.

We have Cavision's single and dual-wheel follow-focus systems. They're about $899 and $1199 list respectively. We have several DVXUsers using them who will attest to the amazing build quality on them - and, unlike some others that have been discussed on the "budget" side, there is no gearbox backlash.

Both come with your choice of lens gear, film or B4 pitches are both available. Naturally, we have a DVXUser discount.
