Vegas isn't recogninzing my XHA1

I've been searching the forums for hours, but can't seem to find an answer to this :cry:

Anyways, I connect my Canon XHA1 to my computer via Firewire and open Vegas 7. It recognizes my A1 in HD mode when it's in some sort of recording mode, but when you put it in VCR mode to import the tape, it loses the connection. It always recognizes it in SD mode, so I know I must not be doing something right.

I have imported HD footage from my A1 in Vegas before, but I have no idea how I did that because now Vegas isn't seeing my camera anymore.

This is really frustrating...I'm probably doing something really stupid that I'm not seeing. Can someone please enlighten me? :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Try turning on vegas first before turning the camera on.

Thanks for the response. I actually figured it out; I had HD downconversion on, so when I tried to capture HD, the camera was sending a SD signal so it wasn't recognizing it.
