Now that VEgas 8 will introduce 32 bit color processing, i was wondering in what codec will be better to export our video clips.
Since we are in pc our options are quite limited.
Then i went to the blackmagic site and downloaded their codecs. They offer a pack with 4 codecs for free:

- 10bit ( i assume this is 10 bit 4.2.2)
- 10 bit RGB ( i assume this is 4.4.4)
- 8 bit (dont know what this is)
- 8 bit 2Vuy (i think this is 4.2.2. but i am not sure)

In principle this seems like a very interesting improvement.
Has anyone performed tests with blackmagic codecs (performance, quality, gamma sift, compatibility) under windows? Are they readable on a mac?

Are you talking about uncompressed export? For final mastering, or intermediates..? Are you not discussing cineform because it's not free, or cause it's not true uncompressed?

32bit float in vegas will blow me away if it's true, far more than I'd hoped for... I'll be grading linear light all the way, always prefered it but projects which justified it were always in the minority, until now.

1. Because it is free.
2. for final mastering.
