earlier this year we had a roving cameraman come out to film our conference and he shot everything in HDV on the canon XL H1. We've sat on it for a few months but I'm ready to capture the footage now and start work, so does anyone know a place in San Francisco that rents this deck? I'd only need it for a day and I don't need to shoot anything so while a camera isn't out of the question, I'd prefer to get a deck and just capture. It really depends on which is cheaper.
Do they make decks for these cameras yet? Google isn't giving me too much (at least in my area)

As far as I know as long as your not trying to down convert from hdv to 24p you should be able to use any of the newer HD decks or it mite be cheaper to rent a Canon XHA1 not the H1 just to digitize it

Canon doesn't make deck and the other HDV ones will not read 24F. You'll just have to use the A1 or find an HV20/HV10 for capture.

If they shot 60i, a Sony deck or Sony camera would work. If they shot 24F or 30F, then *only* a Canon HDV camcorder can be used to read that footage.

Well i'll try contacting the cameraman to see. The only Sony cam I have is a VX2000 and the panasonic deck (DV) i tried to run wouldn't even start the tape.
