Just out of curiousity, for wedding videos do you need to get the rights to the music your using? Or is it generally like, no one will find out, and it really won't be distrubuted?

you need to get the rights.

I don't worry about getting the rights for the music, as I do the weddings as a side business. If I was doing a wedding for Paris Hilton I might consider it but for normal clients I wouldn't waste my time because more than likely an artist will say no you can't use my music. And more than likely they aren't ever going to know, and if they did so what, I've never heard of anyone getting sued for using someones music in a wedding video, they have more concerns like people stealing their music off the net.

HD = good! I might suggest getting an on camera light for the reception. (maybe you have one, lighting wasn't too bad since it was outdoors)
What did you use for mic'ing when the guests left messages? On camera shotgun?
Invest in some lens cleaner :-p
If I got to use HVX's for my weddings I would totally do a slowmo montage of closeups and whatnot... too bad my company invested in GL1s a number of years back...

Thanks, on camera mic for closeups. Lens cleaner, yes no doubt, I didn't see that until I started editing... oops.

I have the bride provide the music she wants on the video. I presume she owns the CD, therefore I am merely making copies for her private use on another medium. I do not use other copyrighted material. Some may consider this a stretch of the CD license, but that's what courts are for.

Was it 1080 or 720/720pn? i like the filmic look achieved here, how do you get over the hours of footage needed to be recorded at a wedding, are you using a firestore or hard drive? i ended up having to revert to tape after running out of p2 space, cant afford a firestore or similar yet,
Thanks

720pn 24p to a firestore. Longlife battery for the firestore and HVX and I never run out of space or battery. Well worth the investment. And yes that filmic look is what people love about the video, makes all the difference.

Sounds good, thats what i am saving for next......which model of the firestore do you have? i think they do a 100gig one now
What are the benefits of the firestore over say....a portable firewire hard drive?.........

I have the FS-100 which is the firestore that was made for the HVX. I think the only other device you can use is the citidisk, which I believe is not working out too well for others here on this forum. Or I suppose if you want to haul your mac around you could capture the video with FCP. I really like my firestore and recommend it to anyone needing the portable storage solution.
