I'm pretty new to the world of adapters and lenses. Looking at the Brevis' design, I don't see how I would use an auto focus lens with it.

Do auto focus lenses pose any problem at all?

so AF lenses may work if their iris is not controlled electroniclly, but you will have a really short focus throw.

The AF Nikons I have (they're DX lenses) have a super tiny range for the focus ring. You can rack from infinity to macro instantly. It makes hitting the places between pretty tough! Also makes repeatability a real issue.

I don't know a lot about them, but I think with some follow focuses you can correct this somewhat by adjusting how much the follow focus moves the focus ring. So maybe with that kind of rig you could get more precise focusing. But the short answer is save your money and buy MF lenses with generous focus rings.

So effectively you are saying that AF lenses are similar to power steering, in that smaller movements = bigger effect compared to manual focus. I see, so in that case it would make much more sense to go for MF lenses. Does everyone concur that this issue on its own warrants the use of MF lenses?

Also, you seem to be saying that auto focus as a feature definitely will not work with the Brevis. Everything is designed to be manual focus only, right?

Shame, as many of the best reviewed Nikons I've been looking at buying are auto focus lenses, and I am not sure if they all have a manual focus counterpart.

Thanks for the info though. If anyone could provide any additional clarification that could be useful.

Cheers!
James

All of the mounts on the 35mm adapters are cold mounts. Meaning that they have no electronics, and therefor no way to control the auto features of the lenses.
Birger Engineering is working on hot mounts right now. I believe the cannon is going to be first and they are working on a nikon.

No testing has been done with them yet.
If you want more info on them I'd suggest donig a search over at www.reduser.net
A lot of people seem very interested in it over there.

Seems way too complicated and a pain in the ass to me. especially if using it on an adapter. Just another step in front of the camera i'd like to avoid.
