I read on some german sites about green farbic which you can get at IKEA. It is stated that it is quite good for chromakey.
Here is the link for the IKEA website:

Did somebody try this one?
looks slightly too pale ?
Unfortunately it is not green...:beer::grin:

You get to select the color you want and I do see green available.

Photoshop :)
Assuming that the ikea image is correct, this is the difference. You may be able to pull it off if you pump up the saturation, but it's still pretty pale imo.

Actually, it's not full 100% RGB green, that's too bright and not deep enough....

Well, it is definately not chroma key green, but it should still work. It works with every color, depending on what your object is.
The question is, how good will it work? Has nobody tested this one?

You could also buy plain muslin and ritz dye, making your own green screen. The ikea stuff seems like a decent price though, and I'm not sure, but their picture may be a bit overlit. In any case, you should be able to key with any color. The key is to make sure it is evenly lit, and that you don't have that color anywhere else in the scene.. duh huh :)

Thats my point :) It definately is cheap. I read about people using it and I will give it a try when I am back to germany.
For $2.99 it'd be a good thing to keep in the kit for the unexpected keying situation.

I proudly say that here, in my country (Colombia), a family makes one of the best green screen and sevearl other backgrounds; they have their own space at B & H photovideo, I own and use several of them, but the most used is the green ones

Wow. A collapsable 8' x 16'? I can't even imagine how that must be to fold up. I know I had trouble with just the 5 x 7 fold ups!
How goes the DIY work Ernesto?
I went to the BIRTV show here in China this week (Chinese NAB) and saw a really fabulous green screen fabric (from Thailand) there that was one of the type that have the thin foam backing.
Those are really great if you can find those reasonably because they don't wrinkle. The foam keeps them very nice. In addition, the surface was very much like a felt type material with absolutely no shininess to it at all so it shouldn't contribute too badly to green spill--although they will all have some and you still need to keep the talent as far away from the screen as possible.

I just bought a green screen from Amvona on eb*y for $54 plus shipping. That's a 10'x12' screen. They also offer a 10x20 for $66. Granted, these are cotton dyed, not polyester, so it is a little lower grade., No lower than the IKEA stuff, which remember is $2.99 a yard, so thats 54 inches by 36 inches.
Just a heads up for those of you who want something larger.
It does look a bit pale - but you should still get some benefit from the increased color information the bayer pattern picks up in the green channel?

I have the Amvona 10x20, it was the first one I got and I agree about this but my next screen will be one of these foam backed polyester types with absolutely no sheen at all. I'll spend more money next time because its worth it to not have to mess with the keying which takes longer when the screen is substandard.

I´m always amazed what some people on the net pull off with DIY greenscreens, painted cardboards with inconsistent green lit by hrd worklights aso - in the end it seems to depend on the skills of the compositing artist...

I went to IKEA yesterday and noticed thoce shower curtains..
For a price of something like 4 €, I decided to try..
There were also other possibilities in blue colour for 10 €; made of 100% cotton, but I saw that they reflex much more light than those from polyester..
We just ordered on eBay greenscreen ( size 3 x 6 m ) for studio, but I decided to try this one to have it at home, if it is urgent to shoot something on fly..
I just tested it wit only two lights from the cealings, and I managed to pull out decet key ( for that price ) vith VEGAS 6, with no problem..
I know, I need backlight..and better light-set..
Usually I pulled key from our studio background ( guy on the pic ), hich is made of different blue sqares..
I know it is not perfect, but anyway..we can broadcast every week on National TV.. will be better, soon.. :)
So, if you need low budget green-screen.. it is worth those 4 €..
Comments apprechiated..
cheers,

I just use my living room's wall for green-screening
a result...

for a video I did, I went to a art supply store and bought lime green poster board...bought about 4 of them (total $4). I used that for a green screen. It was so ghetto and last minute. Ended up working but I had to use Shake instead of After Effects to key out all the green. Do I recommend it?.... No. Is it possible and really cheap, yes.

I used to be a big advocate for DIY but do yourself a big favor and beg borrow or steal a real green screen. I did my first shoot recently. And after some disaster tests using everything from paper to plastic to cloth as DIY green screens, and with someone else's money at stake I made the wise choice and begged a local lighting and grip rental place to lend me a green screen. They gave me a huge lighting and grip kit (more than we ended up able to power) and included a 12x12 green screen on a collapsable frame with stands and 2 4x4 kino flos.
I will never go back to DIY for keying. Pulling a half decent key from DIY is a nightmare that often requires 100x the post work to fix and make halfway useable. My best case DIY scenario had so much variation in the green that i lost all the small detail cleaning it up. I could only shoot stuff with a fast shutter because motion blur would be lost with the adjustments to overcome the wrinkles and lighting falloff on the green screen.
I could never attempt to pull keys from footage like this if that green screen was a piece of ikea tablecloth or something.
