I'm looking to shoot a feature in the upcoming year and wanted to get started on gear. Would it make sense to use a P+S with the camera or use their stock lens? I've seen some good DOF with stock lens and not bad, but the problem I"m hearing or seeing is sometimes you have to be a good 10ft away to get a nice shallow DOF. Would it be better to rent the P+S and have DOF that way, or setup shots with the HPX and make it work?

I asked someone at AbleCine about the P+S pro35. It is more the 2 times the price of the mini35. $26000. But he said someone is working on a cheaper version with a pl mount.
Anyone know which company is working on a pl mount 35 adapter??

Movietube is coming out with a nice for smaller cameras, and I imagine one to compete with the pro35 isn't far behind
if you want to rent a P+S Technik pro35 and set of primes, the best prices I've been able to get are 1200 a week. most places are 1800 or higher.
I got some amazing footage from my HPX, but not with the stock lens. I didn't buy that lens because I don't think it's good for anything other than ENG or DOC type stuff where no one cares about shallow depth of field. I'd rather rent a top end lens for a couple hundred then use a low end lens that cost me in the neighborhood of 10k
for that matter, I'd rather buy a high end SD lens and use it on the HD camera. It will gove me a nicer image than the low end HD lens, albeit not as crisp.

i am having a very different experience - I got the fuji lens and am getting amazing images from it. Once you learn to control the breathing it works well

I used the P+S pro 35 with zeiss super speed primes on a feature I DP'ed with an HDX900 and got amazing results. That being said, working with the 35mm lens is much more difficult. Depth of field is exteremly shallow so your AC must be good. We worked in extreme cold weather and had to adjust the back focus frequently. The results are worth it though. My first pick would be digiprimes, then the pro 35, a cinezoom (they don't breath) and if I absolutely had to an ENG lens. It's all about the lens. I shot a short last year for FOX using digiprimes on an SDX and it looks incredible, as good if not better then an HPX shot in high def.

Hi Rh,
There is a recent post on creativecow's P2 forum where someone posted some very nice HPX500 with 35mm adapter shots. I believe he was using Nikon lenses.
