In the process of getting my hands on my HVX
(looking at financing as an option).

Anyway I'm really look at the HVX as an SLR Camera
in that you remove ya media and dump. I know the memory
cards are cheaper for the SLR as well as the card reader.

***Now correct me if I'm wrong***

But IMHO the same rules would apply. What I have discovered
one can get the following:

An adapter from duel systems - http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001,

A $70 drive enclosure (that handles firewire 400) - http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MOTGFW400/
Or A firelite drive - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/492714-REG/SmartDisk_FWFL160_160GB_FireLite_FireWire_400_Port able.html

With the hardrive you can either have several laptop drives to swap out for traveling (enclosure), or you can bill a firelite per project and just use it to dump

A 160gig drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148184
and I should be good as gold.

Lastly an additional laptop battery would be helpful

**Now keep in mind this setup is just to empty p2 cards... similar to when I'm shooting stills and my SD cards are full, I need a place to just dump the content captured. When I go home I would then transfer the footage else where for editing.

How is the hard drive powered?

The hard drive is powered
via firewire... Is it me or do certain people only get responds? I have had about 20 or so views with just one reply... Maybe everyone agreed with my idea?

The HVX does NOT have bus power in its firewire. I other words the HVX can not power your drive.

We are planning to do the same thing but have to find a way to power the drive.

Just get a cheap PC laptop. Around $400 will get you all you need.

Actually not much of a headache Dante. I needed a workflow for dumping and learned from everyone here. My laptop has a PCMCIA slot and an exprescard slot. I just put the full P2 card in my PCMCIA slot and dumped to an external firewire800 drive or the internal drive in my laptop. I can also connect an eSATA drive to my laptop through the expresscard slot and dump that way. take my external hard drive home and edit from there.

P.S. I am going to edit on a MAC and I use my PC laptop for dumping
