Just wondering if anyone can think of some other movies that use the 'Flash-Forward' cut used in Easy Rider.

I'm guessing it was probably done in some avant-garde and probably French New Wave films before Easy Rider did it.

But just wondering if it appears in any post-New Wave, post Easy Rider films.

I'm a big fan of it (the Flash-Forward cut, and the movie) and I remember being blown away the first time I saw it.

I have never seen Easy Rider so I am not 100% sure if Flash-Forward cut means what I think it means but if it means showing what is going to happen to a character in the future than plenty of movies have done it.

Big Fish does it several times to show what happens to a character later in life. Also, Lost just did it with this season's final episode.

I really don't remember Big Fish that well, but Easy Rider would suddenly do a jump cut for just a second, to an event in the near future. It seems to me like there was a fast "Dream sequence" or "flash back" sound effect too, that acompnied... accompanied... played with it. ;)

no no no no no no no......

my fault, i assumed people would know what i was talking about; if you've seen easy rider it's pretty clear....

basically there's a cool little editing motif which recurs throughout the film, when transitioning from one scene to the next.

imagine a normal cut from one shot to the other -
let's call the first shot A, and the second B.
and represent the act of a cut with a /

thus, a normal cut is like this: A/B

but in easy rider they would flash back and forwards between the two shots twice, for about a half second (which I will represent below with an x), before moving onto the next shot (and scene).

thus, it would be represented like this: A/Bx/Ax/Bx/Ax/B

hope that makes sense.

that only happens once (i think) when...

PLOT SPOILER: Captain America is looking at a plaque in the fancy whorehouse and for a second it flashes to a shot of the burning motorcycle wreckage that claims his life.
