View Full Version : Where to buy AG-DVX100AE?
Hi everyone!
I`m a new user here in dvxuser.com, found this site on the net, while I was looking for my DVX, I guess this is the best DVX online community to be found :)
OK, let`s cut to the chase, I`m from Riga, Latvia (it`s in Europe) if you`re wondering ;) So I`m thinking - where could I buy my DVX (PAL version), can anyone help me here!? Some online-shop maybe or there is some other way, considering I`m form Latvia!
Thanx a lot !

Here's my two cents :
Cent #1 : buy locally. It will be much easier to have the camera serviced under warranty if there's a problem. Considering where you live, "locally" might include Finland or Poland...
Cent #2 : if you can't buy locally, you'll have to deal with import duties, taxes and so on--plus the hassle of returning the cam, should it ever need to be serviced. But if that's the way you want/have to go, then call the one and only Rush at EVS, and get the dvxuser.com discount !
Mmmm... Rush...? You *do* sell PAL cameras, don't you ? ;D If he doesn't, then buy from a *reputable* dealer such as B+H Photo in NYC and be sure to shout "PAL ! PAL ! PAL !" repeatedly, so you don't end up with an NTSC model by mistake.
Now I`m even more confused :)
I guess buying locally would be the best decision, because of the warranty, but does it mean I should travel to Finland or Poland to get one?
But if I buy online, do I still receive a warranty and I`m able to return the camera to seller if there`s a problem?
Latvia is joining EU in 01.05.2004., does it change anything, regarding all those warranty issues?
Thanks again!

Cipa, when I said "locally", I meant Riga, but if you can't find it there, going to Finland or Poland (after Poland and Latvia join the EU) could be safer because if there's a problem, you could bring the camera back to the authorized dealer in person, rather than mail it overseas. Dealing person-to-person is always better in this sort of case.
If you buy online, you'll get a warranty under the local law of the reseller (*if* they're authorized and not grey market). Sometimes you can also buy an extended warranty (such as the Mack one), but still under the concerned local law, which you won't be familiar with. So the safest bet, as far as warranty is concerned, is to buy in your country, and then in a neighboring country, member of the EU.
If you elect not to do this, I'd at least stay away from the Far Eastern outlets. Yes they're less expensive but you'll be in a bad situation if there's any problem with the cam. Reputable (and authorized) US dealerships are often fair, and sometimes excellent, in terms of warranty service and customer assistance. Usually better than their European counterparts.
Good luck !

Alternatively, you could try www.creativevideo.co.uk (CVP) who are an authorized Panasonic Broadcast dealer in the UK. I think they ship to Europe. :)
Highly recommended!!

Sure I sell PAL, just not the 100A yet. :( I have tried so hard to establish a supply of those cameras from my reliable trusted sources, but they only have the 100 in PAL, not the 100A. Hopefully soon... :)

But the question of the lack of availablility of Manufaturer's original product guarantee in Europe would very much remain there.
this makes the decison quite difficult...either way....whether u get ur camera from an online store or LOCALLY.
As for the comment about Far Eastern dealers, at least my experience has been just the reverse. In fact for the PAL models one should better look towards some of those Asian outlets...as they are so far the main ditributors. For those of you who might not know, even if u order ur PAL through the limited no of american dealers who supply the PAL model, u will ultimately get ur shipment from Singapore...in any case. At least that has been the situation till a month back. they do not seem to have any stocks of the PAL model themselves.
In fact my personal experience has been very satisfying with the EXPADORE....of Singapore. They are, to my mind, as trustworthy and professional delaers...as any top ranking dealer in the US. this is specially true after so many stories we have heard about even some of the so called reputable dealers in the US. However, this comment of mine please may not be taken as a shadowy remark for anyone...ANYONE. 8)
Yes! I`ve heard about expandore and creativevideo, they do sell 100A PAL, but should I do it? I mean it sounds a little risky to me!
I`m in Eastern Europe they`re in Singapore....I don`t know!
What about those craetivevideo guys, anyone had any expierence with them, England just sounds better for me, and it`s much closer to Latvia then Singapore ;)
P.S. Thanks to everyone who found this post interesting enough to add comments, it`s been really helpful sofar!
i got my PAL dvx from www.globalmediapro.com from New Zealand to europe.. and it worked well.. so far :)

Hi,
I got my dvxae from b&h for 4000.
But I know that my camera was shipped to USA (I live in NYC now) and next B&H shipped it my me.
So, probably it's better if you look for the camera in Europe.

ps in Polish CIPA means...pussy. First I thought that some Polish guy makes a joke here but .... anyway what CIPA means in your language, I know that your language is not so far away from Polish... ;D Just curious ???
;) Well...I guess I should change my user name a.s.a.p.?! Actually in latvian it doesn`t mean anything, just a combination of words (looks like unsuccessful) :D
OK, the conclusion is, if I can`t find 100A PAL here in Riga, I should: a) search for authorized dealer who sells them somewhere near Latvia (Finland, Poland, Germany, UK...)
b) Buy it online from B&H, EVS, EXPANDORE or GLOBALMEDIAPRO?
Right ??
Cheers guys! ;D
and thanks again!

Expandore.com and biz-max.net are excellent places t purchase. I have ordered from them in Australia and a others in Australia and America have purchased from them and been happy.
There does seem to be issues with the Mack Warranties though but hey all the camera's are made and numbered in Japan so its not like someone is making fakes.

I bought my DVX100A from Creative Video and their customer service is impeccible. They even have a forum so that you can post to their technicians and they'll get back to you usually within 24 hours. I'd say going with them is a very good choice.

Are there any additional customs/gst related charges (on top of shipping) when shipped from Expandore, in the way globalmediapro plonks a 10% charge when shipping to Aust? I'm thinking of getting the 102AE from expandore.
edit: Sorry, I should have specifically said Australian customs charges.

I just checked. The price in Poland is the same like in USA for DVXAE.
So, it is better to buy it in Poland probably cos if you want to buy it tru B&H (NYC) they will ship the camera to NYC (from Europe) first and then probably to you. Or maybe if theyre smart they will just ship it from Europe to you.
Or maybe you got your camera already?

I too can vouch for Expandore. Their service is nothing but excellent, even when it comes to repairs. When I ordered my DVX100 from them I pretty much had decided to give up warranty in favor of a much lower price than locally (I saved well over $2000!). Before this experience I was pretty much thinking "if it breaks it breaks, and it must be really messed up to cost more in repairs than I saved when purchasing it".
Anyway,
I had to send mine back because of problems with the sound, and even though the warranty had just expired they told me to send it in, and if it really was defective they would fix it at no charge. Turned out to be a defectice audio board, which they replaced for free.
Their service is absolutly top notch.

And I bought through Expandore. Highly recommended.
I've bought through Expandore; just waiting for the camera to arrive, should be here tomorrow. * :)
They have been very good to deal with so far; fingers crossed they can keep the same level of service should I have any problems with the camera.
EDIT: Camera arrived as promised and I have no complaints with the service from Expandore. There was no hard sell of any accessories and the camera appears to be working just fine.
I used the UPS exchange collect service for payment.
Thumbs up for Expandore!

Hi everybody?! Do you know how should i consider and calculate the extra money i'll have to pay when i'll receive things shipped from expandore in terms of taxes, vat and things like that?
