I've got a horror script already finished and on paper -- Needs to be shortened down to five minutes but aside from that, I'm ready to go.

I've been attempting to find collaborators in the Austin area, without much luck. Let's get an Austin group together and do this!

I've got a DVX handy, and a machine to edit with. I'm fully capable of handling any previz materials neccessary, and I've got a buddy who can supply an original score.

Drew Ott

Nice.

I know some others who would also be interested.

Bball - like I mentioned the other day, I'm pretty slammed right now - but keep me up to date on what you guys are doing.
If there is anyway I can help out an Austin team, I will.

My schedule should ease up by the end of September.
I know that's key "Hallows Eve" time ... but, it is what it is.

Drew Ott

Thanks again Luis.

I hope you will be able to help once something starts rolling.

Thanks. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a short film project up and running soon, giving me an opportunity to do some previs work for characters, location, shots, etc.

I've got a few projects coming up, but would love to meet up with DVX/HVX users in Austin. Whether it's for collaborating or just getting together to share ideas.

I'd be up for a 'get together' of sorts (not to hijack your thread here Bball).
Not sure what you guys might have in mind - but I hang out at Dolce Vita on Duval all the time (right next to Hyde Park Bar & Grill).
Wouldn't mind some DVXUser conversation there some night.

EDITED TO ADD:
But not tonight - I'm going to see an awesome 70mm print of Lawrence of Arabia at the Paramount.
If you guys have never seen it on the big screen - this is the way to see it!
My wife and I go pretty much every year.

Drew Ott
08-30-2007, 02:57 PM
Well Luis, we've sort of been trying to get one of those together for a really long time.

Maybe we could have an Austin user's meeting and incorporate some planning for the short some of us are collaborating on.

And he returns.... and jacks the thread sort of.

Hey guys, I'm back. Had to take a little hiatus but Wild Imagination Films is back in full swing. I have an entry in Bloodshots and some secret backing. Quite a crew lined up and growing more. SO if you guys are interested in playing next weekend this is your BIG CHANCE!!!
Get in touch with me as soon as you can to let me know who might be interested. I think there's plenty of time and energy to do a couple of films this month.

What are y'all doing this weekend? The wife and I are going out downtown tomorrow if anyone wants to meet up. Did an "Austin Team" ever get put together? I'm more than happy to collaborate/help-out if anyone's game!

Count me in :)
My schedule's pretty full this next month or so (and from the sound of it so is everyone else's) but I think if we all pool our resources and available time we could submit a collective "Austin Users" entry. If y'all are down, let's pull this off!

Equip:
DVX-100b w/ associated stock accessories
Rode NTG-2 Shotgun
(The rest of my stuff is on a boat heading here from Germany so all I have is what I could carry on the plane)

Additionally, I just started working at the Mansion of Terror haunted house in Round Rock so I could probably pool together some actors, props, etc. if needed.

I say let's get together Sunday at Luis' favorite place, Dolce Vita on Duval, sometime in the late afternoon. We can do the introduction thing, talk about some ideas, and get more of a game plan together.

spooky138
09-19-2007, 10:07 PM
Sorry I'm late to reply, but I'm definitely gonna be there. Where, by chance, is the Dolce Vita located anyways? Huge Fellini fan here (and I'm relatively new in town) so please pardon my ignorance :) I'm going to show up wearing a Blood Feast shirt in honor of All Hallow's Fest (the movie was directed by H.G. Lewis who was a pioneer in the 60's for pushing the boundaries of drive-in horror).
It sounds like we're well on the way to having this "in the can" (j/k), so I will see you guys this weekend! I've got some ideas clunking around in my ol' cranium so I'll try to flush them out on paper and bring'em as well.

Thanks alot, iv worked hard to get where I am today. I would like to first thank God for inspiring me with the replys and new topics I formed leading me up to my 100 posts. I would also like to think Panasonic because with out them there would be no DVX and with out DVX there would be no DVX users or this website to accomedate them. Most importantly I would like to think all the little people of the Lolly Pop Guild 318 Local for their inspiring words of wisdom....

err... I mean Thanks Spooky :D

Heres a link to the place, you can type in a starting address for directions...

I've got an idea too, but mine sucks.

Maybe we could take advantage of our city and use something based off a true story, theres a ton of stuff through out the city like Jacobs Hill Bridge, two kids murdered by their father, its said that they will push your car across the bridge to get away from the abandoned house. Just wanted to throw that out incase I cant make it to the meeting tomorrow

Stephen Mick
09-22-2007, 06:17 AM
Whether or not we "borrow" some cues from true stories, I'd love to see us settle on an idea/script that brings the flavor of Austin to the film. Not sure how, but I think that could be a cool approach.

Most definitely the meeting last night was a success! My wife and I enjoyed meeting all of you immensely and I think we are off to a great start with this project. I can't wait to get 'down and dirty' with, as Steve put it, some death-related art. Here here!

I came up with an idea and Scott and I worked out a story we can get cast, get locationed, get shot and get edited within the time available and keep it in five minutes. SS, and everyone else not sitting on a cushion.....
Still working really hard to get the church. They seem to be alittle hesitant at the idea of letting some indie film makers film in the H.O.G. Odd thing.
So we are still looking at the possibility of shooting in one of the many fine city parks here in the lovely Austin area. Mt Bonnell got scouted and it would be geat. I just have to work my magic on the powers. We are still looking for the church. This is kinda crucial to the development of the story. I think we could use any "cathedral" looking church and we could do a cardboard confessional if we had to. It'll look real on screen.
If everyone will check in on the yahoo group for wild imagination films, you'll be better able to keep up with everything we have going on. At this point things are going to start going really fast and it'll be really easy to get left behind. We have 28 days left to get this thing done. I am anxious to hear or see everyone's ideas and input. We have a solid plan and there is plenty of work for everyone to do. Like I said, the yahoo group is the best way for me to keep everyone abreast of what's happening.

To summarize what was discussed at the meeting today....
We have eliminated the need for the church. We have lengthened the scene at the end. And we have agreed there is a real need for a list of who is and who isn't in on the project. With time running lower each day, it is imperative we get the final list of who would like to, has time to, and can do what.

I am IN... and will do whatever job(s) needs to be done to get this motion picture in the can! Woo hoo! I'm really shooting for the DP gig, but if we're using John's HVX/M2/Whatever lenses he has, etc. then I'd be more than happy to simply assist since I've never messed around with a 35mm adapter before and would love to learn more, gain experience with different gear, etc. etc. But like I said, I'll do whatever job is needed... I do have experience with special makeup and practical effects... I'm competent with lighting, audio, and I've got a mean roll of gaffer's tape

I hope everyone else here commits to this project so we can show this forum what the boys from Austin can do! Yippee!

Hey guys,

I'm not a DP so my HVX/M2 combo is available for use. I'll be the p2 card/data wrangler during the shoot. Here's a quick list of what everyone is doing as far as I know:

Will - Casting, script outline, location wrangler, and all around hard worker.
Scott - ditto
Jon/Mike/Stephen - Putting outline into script format/polish

Needs: 1. Someone to take initiative on Poster 2. Sound guy/gal 3. DP assignment 4. Makeup 5. SFX person

Let me know if I missed something.

cheers,

JP

1. I volunteer Matt for the poster. hehe ( I suck at photoshop )

2. Only audio gear I have here right now is my RODE NTG2 Dual Powered Directional Condenser Microphone... it's definitely not a pro level mic but it would suit our purposes. I do NOT have mic stands / boom poles and whatnot. I believe at our first meeting someone said something about a "sound guy". Did he fall through or are we trying to fill these positions in-house as much as possible?

3. I would love to DP this, but perhaps there's someone else here who is more familiar with the equipment Jon's providing? Speak up now!!! please :)

4. I can do the SFX makeup/blood/and other nastiness but I definitely do NOT have the touch when it comes to your standard theater / movie subtle makeups... I could ask my wife...

I can DP, camera operate, boom operate, edit, and direct.

Have we agreed on a director yet? I'd love to have input on shot selection and lenses/lighting.

I can take care of a poster thats no problem, have we decided on a title yet?

I will still write music for this so the sooner you can get me a script the sooner I can start drafting up a score. I will post my work schedule here if any production happens around those hours you will know not to expect me.

Sat & Sun 7am-3pm
Mon-Wed 3pm-11pm
Thur & Fri Off work.

They have this site blocked at work now so you wont see me on the forums 24/7 like usual.

Before this goes absolutely out of control, I would like to mention a couple of things. First off, I don't know if everyone has taken the time to read the rough draft of the script I put in the files section of the WIF group. This little project is going to require a very very delicate and masterful touch or it's going to look like poo. I would like to see everyone get to have a chance to provide input into what the final project looks like, but I fear a case of too many cooks...
As of today, we have a few people who are indicating interest and commitment but little else.
I am going to end here and continue this on the group site. I hope you will all take a moment to look.

Did Will just officially turn this movie into a "Wild Imagination Films" project?

Hi everyone,

The project is still going strong. We're casting this weekend, and we'll have a script out to everyone by Friday.

Surreal, we haven't decided on a title yet, but go ahead and work up a poster on the Demon/Opedial theme. Will can probably give you more detail.

We need to have a meeting after casting on Saturday or Sunday morning. I'd like for us to have the meeting after the casting on Saturday which will be around 5-6. We'd be having the meeting at a different location at Will's work location on south 183.

We're shooting Oct 13 and 14, maybe Friday the 12th. But we need to talk about this, assignment of duties, craft services, etc at our meeting.

Could everyone make a Saturday meeting, late afternoon?

cheers,

JP

I'd like to keep this a DVXuser project as apposed to Wild Imagination Films.

If we start looking for personal gain out of this, it will not become a collaborative effort and our goals will be diminished.

hordeprime

I'm going to dissent for a second -- I don't see this becoming a "Wild Imagination Films" project at all; What I DO see is someone stepping up out of the crowd to fill a lead position, something that is needed in every group project. Whether it's a collaboration or not, there needs to be someone who can give a definitive "Sure, right on" -- otherwise, we just sit at the meetings BSing about "Wouldn't it be cool if...?"

Will didn't decide that we were doing this story; We all agreed that the writers would have final say, and after Will pitched his idea, Jon and I agreed that it was (A) more original than what we had originally planned, and (B) exceedingly easier to shoot with the alotted time and resources.

It's still a team project -- Will's not making this on his own.

Drew Ott
10-02-2007, 05:52 PM
It just seems that way due to Will's request to move our discussion from DVXuser to his personal production company's forum; we agreed to discuss private information regarding production on the Austin DVXusers site.

However, I completely agree that it is good that somebody is stepping up and taking more initiative. Will is doing a great job with that.

Matthew R. Rodwell

We now have the following things...

1. The camera and adapter
2. The tripod and the jib and the monitor
3. The script
4. The shot list/ breakdown/ thought process
5. The audition place
6. E-mails out to those who wanted to audition
7. An editor
8. SFX and make-up are locked

We still need...

1. Runners- these are the people who do 90% of the on-set work
2. Gear haulers- what the name implies
3. Someone good with technical lighting and who has lights, or...
4. Someone with lights who wants to learn how to use them
5. Someone to handle sound (wearing headphones)
6. Assistants to Director, Director of Photography, Sound
7. Continuity
8. CRAFT SERVICES
9. Script wrangler/ shot list keeper/ tape wrangler
10. Carpenters to build the confessional
11. Someone said something about music on DVXUser. Can we find him?
12. A couple of Behind The Scenes people for still and video memories

On Saturday, there will be a casting session at the office where I
work. This building is large enough and has facilities for such an
activity. Plus, it's free. On Sunday, I will be scouting a location
and looking at some other possibilities. Next week, we'll have a
rehearsal most likely on Wed or Thurs depending on availability of the
actors. This is when I would hope Mr. Pedro can do some really rough
story board stuff. We'll block out the scenes and stuff. Friday
everyone needs to get rested up. Saturday morning, the confessional
scene will be shot. Saturday afternoon the make-up team will start
with our actor and the set team will start on our location. At dusk,
we'll start shooting on location and hopefully have it wrapped before
4 am.

Hi everyone,

We'd like to have another production meeting tomorrow morning, at say 10:30. Would everyone be able to make it then? We'd like to have it at Will's work, which is :

4100 Ed Bluestein

Basically, you go South on 183, go under MLK and it's the next right. You'll see a bunch of ambulances parked there.

If not, I have Monday off, and we can use my work's confernce room to have a meeting then, but I'd really like to have one tomorrow morning to iron out everything. I'll also be calling everyone on the contact list in case you don't get a chance to check the board.

thanks!

I can't make it. Too short of notice when I checked. Keep me updated about what is happening.

Who is directing this? On Will's list he doesn't mention director in "needed" or "filled". Also it does seem like we have a ton of man-power to make this production, but the positions aren't filling up. We have many people who volunteered to do different things yet they still have not been given the roles in these official "position" lists.

Who is editing? I said that if Luis did not have time to edit then I would. The editing position is filled. Is that Luis or somebody that I don't know of.

Brandon Rice

Hi all,

The meeting went well. I wish more people could have made it out. There's been a lot of questions posted on the project and quite honestly, it makes it a whole lot easier if you can make it to the meetings were we discuss the project and responsibilities.

A couple of folks have been to ONE meeting and then expect the core group to fill you in on all the details. Quite honestly, that's not fair or remotely reasonable.

Now I understand that people have work conflicts, etc. And you can't make all the meetings. But you have our phone numbers. Don't wait for an assignment, call Will or I up and request it.

Lastly, if you can't post something postive, please don't bother posting at all. It simply doesn't help anyone or you for that matter to be posting negative comments. If you have questions or concerns, again you have our phone numbers. Pick up the phone and call us.

Now that's out of the way. Here's the good stuff: Filming will be on Saturday October 20. We will be filming the confessional scene around lunch time. Then we'll break to set up for our night shoot. We'll be shooting starting around 8:00pm and going to when we get all our shots.

Now the film needs to be uploaded on the 26th so we only have one shot at this, won't have any time for pick ups.

We're doing another casting session next Saturday Oct 13. If you happen to know of any actors and actresses that fit the parts of the script, let me know. We're weren't thrilled with any of the people we saw today.

I'm putting togther a detailed word document with everything else and emailing it to everyone on the group list.

I think that's it for now, look for the word doc from me tomorrow.

cheers,

JP

Just curious

Wild Imagination Films
10-06-2007, 10:04 PM
I think it's a little late in the game to be starting a thread for this one. Likely we'll just get it done and post it. Plus, this one is really a case of "less is more." If we were to talk about it a whole lot, then we don't produce, well.... So we'll just let everyone see what we do.
